Hi. I'm an occasional soap maker, cold process only. I don't know anything about mica. Is it just tiny glitter in the soap? And when should I add it? At the end when I add fragrance? Thanks much.

Hey, welcome to the forum. I'll throw in a brief overview for you on mica.

- Mica is a mineral colourant
- Some micas can morph when used in cold/hot process soap, or not be cosmetic-quality, so make sure to buy from a reputable soapmaking source (Nurture, WSP, Brambleberry, etc.)
- They should be fully dispersed in oil, liquid or glycerin before adding to your soap (everyone has different preferences on the carrier)
- They can be added pretty much any time during the soapmaking process as long as you have time to fully mix them into the batter (if you're only doing one colour, you can add it directly to your melted oils)

I add it to my melted oils before mixing in the lye water. However I am only making mono-colored soap.
