I'm about to make my first birthday Castille (hurray, I made it another year!).

What's the general consensus on an appropriate super fat? I've seen everything from 3% - 9% being mentioned on the forum - though not a lot on the end results of those.

I normally use milks in my soaps... should I restrain myself out of DOS fears?

My first castile had a 8% SF and it got DOS fairly quickly. My second had 5% and so far, no DOS. I know some people use milk in their castile, maybe you could do a split batch and see which you like better.

I use the reasonably-standard 5% and it works well. And yes to the split batch. :)

Given Castile's poor lather, I tend to toss in a little honey or sugar (the milk will take care of that). I can't say it helps in this case, but at least it makes me feel better.
