In Zany's No Slime Castille I recall she set the ratio to 1.7:1 - was that just because it was a Castille?

Thank you!

A full olive oil castille can be soaped at a variety of lye concentrations, but this soap does suit having a high lye concentrations - if they are soaped with a low lye concentration (considered ordinary for most recipes), the sides can bow in during the cure. While I do like the bowed look in my cubed castille soaps, I soap my "ordinary" castille soaps at slightly over 40% lye concentration. Zany's lye concentration (for her recipe) is about 37% ... so is within the range that castile soaps can be soaped at.

Wow!!! Probably one of the best reads yet for someone like me. Thank you so much!!!
You are most welcome! Aunti Clara's styling is superb, so her blog is an easy recommendation :)
Once you get into it, there's a world of youtube soapers out there too!

@Dawni did a great job, just want to add that Rice Bran oil (RBO) is one of the oils with a short shelf life (which translates to DOS down the road), so you may want to buy some ROE (rosemary oleoresin) to add into your RBO stash as an antioxidant (preventing rancidity and DOS).

I'd also like to contribute this link, in addition to the one Dawni posted. It's in 3 parts, so keep scrolling.

Welcome!
I use Rice bran at 35% and have never had DOS. I prefer Rice Bran, HO Sunflower or HO Safflower over Olive Oil personal. I use Rice Bran more often as I got a great deal on some.
