    Tips and tricks, post yours?

I've been using an old cookie sheet at my soaping station to put dirty dishes on..makes clean up much easier because I can just bring my batch of dirty dishes to the kitchen wihtout making 2-3 trips. Plus, it keeps things more organized as I'm going along

    Best place for curing

Yeah, I'd say anywhere dry and has somewhat decent circulation (closet may not be best). Dixie, I was thinking of setting up a curing station in the attic, too! Even in the winter (heat rises in those old houses with no good insulation!) my attic remains pretty hot. Maybe I'll give it a try!

DOS, any way to slow it down?

I've done a few experiments with DOS unintentionally. I had a few batches that developed the spots on half of them that were put on a shelf (exposed to air) and the other half was put in a dark trunk, boxed up - those did not develop spots. I also noticed that a lot of soft oils develop the DOS...

    Dr. Bronner liquid castile soap

My next venture is liquid soaps. I recently started reading "Better Basics for the Home" by Annie Berthold-Bond and I feel like making a liquid castile that I can use as "all purpose" throughout my home would be ideal. We'll overthrow Dr. Bronners! When I first started making soap, I remember...

    Selling price for whole "loaf"

Oh my goodness! I couldn't imagine getting to the point where someone orders 50 bars, let alone 100-250! And to clear one thing up, I sold a batch at wholesale because she ordered 25 bars. Its the only person I've sold that many to at once so far. My regulations on bulk pricing will probably...

    Selling price for whole "loaf"

I usually sell at my wholesale price to anyone buying more than 5 bars. I calculate my wholesale price at 2x MY cost...so $3 a bar. You could always offer deals, too, where you buy 5 bars get 1 free or buy 10 bars get 1 free...people like the idea of getting something free.

What do you do with extra soap?

My "rejects" as I call them usually go to my mother or use them myself. I have a handful of people who will always get free soap (my mother, my best friend/graphic designer, etc) and they are usually more than happy to take my not-so-desirables off my hands. I also use those (the ones that...

    Tips and tricks, post yours?

Do you have any issues storing them in plastic boxes? I tend to store mine in shoeboxes because with some batches, I get a little moisture when I store them in plastic (the longer to cure batches that I usually only pack up when I need the space)

    Tips and tricks, post yours?

since I tend to make so many different batches, I label all of them while curing with sticky notes. I include what's in them and what EOs, colorants, etc, I used and stick the note right in front of the soap...makes label making easier when I package them.

What do you store your bulk items in?

my lard cube was melted when I got it in the mail last week. I was very upset about it and there was little I could do, so I hurried and jammed it into plastic bags and stuck it in the freezer.

    Gardener's Soap

Although I haven't tried pumice, I notice a great blend with lard and cornmeal. Something about the hardness of the lard and the gritty cornmeal makes it more like a rock haha

    Olive Oil Price Increase

I agree. I realized that my local "go-to" store (Ocean State Job Lot - I think they're only in New England?) has it cheaper than anywhere I found online with shipping and everything.

    Non greasy lotion bar????

I'm tinkering with a few recipes myself. The one I like so far is: (equal parts) shea, coco, coconut oil, beeswax (1/2) olive oil maybe 1 tsp cornstarch kinda weird how I did it but I did 2 oz of each of the butters/wax 1oz olive 1tsp cornstarch mixed with my EO added later. So, I'm assuming...

Essential Oil Blends From Essential Wholesale

Ok, I need to bring this post back from the dead. I am very disappointed with a few of their EOs that I bought. Specifically (since these are two of the ones I opened most recently) their patchouli and lemongrass EO...they have a strange odor to them...reminds me of a strong dirt smell? Right...

    Lavender

I had someone request a vanilla batch and I just made it...the smell of vanilla makes me physically ill...my stomach is turning. I love lavender...can't imagine anyone not liking it! But I can relate since I'm having an episode with the vanilla!

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

I went to make a batch of this - thrilled that I had everything UNTIL I went to make it and realized the oil I was using was APRICOT KERNEL and not AVOCADO! I made it anyway and am hoping for the best. If all else fails, its a gentle enough recipe that I'll leave it near my bathroom sink for...

    My soaping lair

I was thinking of setting up in my basement but its too damp and spider-y Your space looks amazing! My space is on wheels right now...I'm using a little kitchen cart and dragging it into the kitchen every time. Its a pain, especially since it keeps getting heavier and heavier with supplies!

    Massive Crock Pots

Just an FYI - that link on Amazon IS NOT a crockpot. Its a roaster oven - I have one - it heats up much more and much quicker than a crockpot. I wouldn't use it for anything soap related because that thing would definitely burn it.
