Entry thread for SMF July 2023 Challenge – More Fun with Color: Pick a Side

This is my first soapmaking forum challenge entry and I almost missed it but I’m glad I got to it in time. I found a new fragrance oil called Lakeside Morning and it’s fresh and unisex but strong after the first week so I’m hoping it will stay through the cure. I have only been soaping for about...

    Underrated and Overrated Soaping Ingredients

How much sorbitol do you use and do you add it to your water before the lye? I use cane sugar and it just discolours the lye water a bit and I’ve seen it come in a liquid or powder, which do you prefer?

How do Canadian soap makers stay in business?

Wow $9 for a head of lettuce! Idk why Canada has been hit so hard but I know what you mean, I’ve seen American soap makers that are charging more than I do and their supplies are cheaper, shipping is cheaper and much more options. I think your price point is right on especially considering the...

How do Canadian soap makers stay in business?

I live in Canada and shipping costs are huge here and to buy from the US is so expensive bc of duty and shipping is brutal from the States so it’s hard to have a business in Canada! Since Covid and the war in the Ukraine, prices of everything have skyrocketed. Idk how single income people...

    Stephenson Shampoo Bar

I bought some of the syndopour from Stephenson and it takes a lot to get it to lather and then I made my own shampoo bars and oh what a difference along with conditioner bars. I have a chronic illness that has made my hair very dry and frizzy and the homemade shampoo and conditioner bars have...

    Strawberry FO

Yes I forgot to mention Candora! I’ve had great success with the handful I’ve tried! I have not tried Suds and Scents yet for fragrance oils but will certainly have a look!

    Strawberry FO

The best quality fragrance oils are Morouge Canada but they don’t have a large selection but WindyPoint and Voyageur soap and candle are good and Fizz Fairy. The last three are all about the same but some fragrance oils are better than others and of course some don’t hold up in CP soap but the...

    Strawberry FO

I live in Canada too and I’ve looked at ordering from Brambleberry and they have huge shipping fees and then there’s duty and the exchange and GST so I’ve had all that add up to way more than what I want to order but I’ve wanted to order from them.

a good set of scented soaps?

In Canada we follow the IFRA limits to amount that can be used and run the essential oils mixture through eocalc. For example lemongrass can only be used at 3% but Rosemary can be used up to 5%. I have a question though, I have never mixed fragrance oils or added an essential oil to a fragrance...
