Clean Fresh Herbal, Ocean Breeze, Tickle Me Pink

I order my supplies from Saffire Blue. I've loved all the FOs I've gotten from them.

Clean Fresh Herbal, Ocean Breeze, Tickle Me Pink

So I got a few new fragrances in yesterday and was excited to try them. Here are a few of them. Happily, none of the scents accelerated or riced and I had lots of time for mixing and molding. This morning I was surprised to find cracks on two of the molds, even though they don't appear to...

This weekend's coconut milk adventure (pics)

Love the molds!! It makes a really esthetically pleasing shaped soap. Beautiful soap :-)

    charcoal soap

I like it too! I haven't tried using my charcoal yet. So many possibilities, so little curing space!

    Camouflage (CP Chick)

Thanks DragonQueen! I like it a lot better now that it's curing. The salmon is a bit more muted now that it's not "wet". The smell is nice, and the lather is absolutely wonderful and full, so it passes muster. When my new colors come in, there will no doubt be more camo in my future. :D

Halloween Soap - Thanks to Sanguine

I was thinking of buying black oxide, but I like the look you got with activated charcoal. Plus, it has other benefits. Hmmm... ideas for next order. Thanks Hazel!

    Camouflage (CP Chick)

Thanks Relle and Hazel. I do like my soap, but the salmon was definitely not part of the plan... That said, it's growing on me. I'm gonna have to shop for some more colors, which means making more soap. Darn, that's gonna be tough, but I think I'll manage.

    Camouflage (CP Chick)

 Here it is in the mold. It's still saponifying because it didn't gel. Will add cut pics when I have them. Cut pics now. I like yours a lot better. Oh well, practice, practice.

    Camouflage

This inspired me to make a camo of my own last night, but it isn't nearly as pretty. I got a dark and light shade of green and a bright brown, but unfortunately it turned a light salmon color when I added TD. Too much red. The men should still enjoy it though. Scented with pine, cedarwood...

    Snow Covered Soap

Heh heh... guess I didn't see your signature. No, some parts of BC don't get much snow. We sure do in NB. It actually reminds me of snow in the evening when everything takes on a blue tint. The Winter Blues??

Listing of oils/butters and their qualities

Wow, Seifenblasen, you're a lot faster on the draw than I am. LOL This is a link to a simple chart that tells you what each oil will do. There are charts out there that provide a lot more information regarding the specific fatty acid properties, but this will tell you the basic information...

    Castor Oil ??

Castor oil isn't necessary, but it makes for a more stable lather. Recently I used one bar from my first batch in the shower. No castor, but about 23% coconut. It produces lots of big bubbles, but they were thin and break down easily. Now I usually include about 10% castor. Adding both...

    Some Soaps

I like it with the darker discoloration. The hearts stand out more. They all look fabulous :)

Which fats/oils to use for soapmaking?

If you type in "soapmaking oil properties" on Google, you will turn up loads of info on what each will impart to a recipe. After about 100 batches now , I've found that my favourite batches tend to be the simpler ones. Coconut, olive, castor and vegetable shortening (crisco, snowflake, etc)...

    clogged pipes

Your soap may have contributed to it, but would not be the main cause. Years before I started making soap, my hubby had to replace a section of pipe draining from the kitchen to the main at the bathroom. The diameter was about half what it should be from grease buildup. Unless you swab the...

Two & Three colour swirled round soaps

Great job! My PVC swirls never distribute as well as yours, because I don't have a helper to pour simultaneously. Usually I pour my base about half full, drop some colored base into the center, then do the same for the top half, before swirling with a skewer. I love round soaps too. :)

    Very discouraged

Yes, it can be frustrating trying to get people to appreciate the value of handmade soaps. Several of our friends are sensitive to scents and/or surfactants. They have all raved about my "freebies" of unscented soap, but none have taken me up on my offer to make a batch for them, even though I...

    Its Pumpkin Time!!

No, unfortunately it did get darker, though it's still a pretty color. I soaped a bit too hot to avoid gel, so I covered it and let it run. Maybe next time I'll soap cooler and lessen the color a bit.
