Recipe Request - coconut and sunflower

I agree with the others, be careful with rapeseed oil and keep it low. However, do give it a try just to see how you like it. I use it at 10% in most of my soaps and I think it adds a nice creamy (even though the fatty acid profile says otherwise) dimension to the lather. And do use citric acid...

    A dream coming true...

I had to double check the user name several times while reading the first part of your post because that sounded exactly like me. Lol. It’s really brave of you to do something so much outside of your comfort zone. I was doing monthly trips with train a couple of years ago and I would always...

2 month lye water storage suggestions?

What a funny coincidence. I’m moving into an apartment shortly and the neighbors can be a little difficult when it comes to mixing dangerous fuming stuff on the balcony. So I figured I’ll go to my parents farm nearby, master batch my lye, take it back to the apartment and keep soaping. But if it...

    Technical questions about mosaicing

Yes, you are probably right, I’m one of those that want to do it once and then have it last the rest of my life and just being overly cautious about everything.

    Technical questions about mosaicing

Thank you for your reply Shunt, I was thinking of using silicone too since I already had some on hand but consensus seems to be that silicone is way to movable and will cause the grout to crack after not too long.

    Technical questions about mosaicing

So I have a bunch of flower pots, some for indoor and some for outdoor use, some in terracotta, some in light weight concrete and some in the regular ceramic/stoneware flower pots usually are made of. Glazed and unglaced. And I wanted to cover them with mosaic, I mostly have those regular...

    Manske-shops fragrance oils

They smell weak out of the bottle, I haven't tried them in soap myself yet. I know some FOs smells weak or bad out of the bottle but gets better in soap, but nearly ALL out of A DOZEN doesn’t seems very likely. In videos and bloggs it looks like they behaves perfectly fine, but if they are...

    Manske-shops fragrance oils

I have maybe a dozen or so of their fragrance oils and most of them smells very weak and I suspect they don’t behave very well in soap either. Although I haven’t actually tried them in soap yet. Their Seerose being the exception, smells good and behaves good in soap in YouTube videos. There...

Help for beginner needed CP soap + Oven Time!

Did you leave the soap in the silicone mould with plastic wrap on during the whole cure? I’m thinking there would be little chance of water evaporating and might contribute to the soap not firming up properly.

    Snowing on Easter

It's nothing unusual having snow during the eastern week here. BUT after the eastern week have passed its very unusual for snow to show up again regardless of how early or late eastern is that year. It's weird.

    Wool Soap

Oh. Why is that? I mean, I wrote that with the 95% olive/NaOH and 5% KoH/castor soaps that workers so well in mind and can't see any reason it wouldn't work in this case.

    Deep Cleansing Oil

Is PS80 really safe for the eyes? I know you said it won’t sting, but I’m assuming no stinging doesn’t always equal safe?

    Wool Soap

In my country olive oil soap is THE thing for everything you don't want to stripp everything off of. So with that in mind I'm thinking 90% olive oil and 10% castor as you probably want some bubbles even if it isn't the bubbles who cleans. And since olive oil soap doesn't strip the lanolin from...

Sciencey people, what about DDT wool?

I received an old wool blanket (in good condition) from my grandmother today but somebody told me it's usual for old wool to have been treated with DDT to protect from moth. I've tried to look it up but most information is contradictory, some say it's very dangerous, some says it's not...

    Attempting snail-extract soap

For what its worth, I have used my own soap to wash snail slime off my hands and usually nothing works to get rid off the slime, but real soap washes it away like it wasn’t even there. So I can't imagine there would be any problem.

    About preservatives

That makes complete sense, thank you! I re-read her page on organic acids and what’s in different preservatives and maybe it would be easier to just take a preservative with Phenoxyethanol, for bacteria, and combine that with one of the organic acids, for fungi/yeast/mold, at 0,5% each to make...

    About preservatives

I wanted to make emulsified shower lotion bars and that would require Phenonip since that is the only oil soluble preservative of the three. I would also like to try milk lotions and other lotions with “foody” stuff in and apparently Germaben is the only preservative who can handle foody...

    About preservatives

So, I’ve been sitting for two days now reading on swiftcraftymonkey and googling and looking up suppliers and I’m starting to give up. It seems most European suppliers only carry preservatives based on Phenoxyethanol and benzoic acid and such. And all that seem much inferior to Germal...
