    Rancid Palm oil

I bought it from Bulk Apothecary. They've always been great, and didn't hesitate to replace it. It was really weird! ...and no it's Palm. I used almost half of the container of it before it went south. Maybe it was Palm Oil wanting to be Pumpkin oil. Just wanted to change it's stripes...

    Rancid Palm oil

I've never had any oil go bad! It was crazy! I also store my stuff in the basement where it's chilly! So weird! And I was shocked that I only had it a few months and it got like that. Oh and it was a strange shade of greenish also. Ugh!!!!

    Rancid Palm oil

All I wanted to do was make another batch of soap! Then I opened my Palm Oil (which I've only had since mid Jan) and boy what a smell!! I couldn't quite place the smell until my daughter said "It smells like pumpkin guts." OMG, she nailed it. It smelled like carving pumpkins at Halloween...

Ugh, another zap test question, Sorry!!

My concern was that I had something else on the scale before (my water) and then switched to measuring the lye and didn't tare it out. OK, maybe I am perfect and did nothing wrong. HAAHA!! So kidding, so not perfect!!!! Maybe my tongue is broken. Too many jalapenos in college those oh so...

Ugh, another zap test question, Sorry!!

So I HP more than I CP but this was a CP batch, super basic, no EO, I added 2 tsp of activated charcoal at trace. I *think* I may have added more lye than needed, it was curing all weird (looked to liquid on top, ended with soda ash) I sort of remember taring my scale when measuring the lye but...

Ugh, another zap test question, Sorry!!

I really want to understand the zap test. I get the theory of "if it zaps you, like a battery it's not done" and "if it doesn't, should be ok" (having older brothers, I fell for the, Hey put this to your tongue trick when I was young. You don't forget that! I swear to holy heaven I think...

What qualifies a soapmaker to be an "artisan"?

Ok, hear me out, first the word artisan makes me think of bread. I guess that's where I see it used the most. And I don't even eat the stuff!!!! To me the word means "master of their craft" but just like the term "all natural", it's been morphed and over used so it really doesn't mean anything...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made soap with my daughter today!!! She wants to learn (yes, another addict in the house!!) I let her measure the oils, pick the color and scent (NOT the lye, I did that) but I did gear her up and let her run the stick blender a bit. We hp'd the soap so she got to see the changes, then she...

Crumbly Salt Bars HP - how to fix

I've hp'd salt bars twice. Both times, I used 80% fine sea salt. I did cut them when they were warm and they did cut fine. I did get some edges that dropped off some salt but didn't get any cracking. I made unscented ones so I didn't have to deal with anything other than adding the salt...

Fed up, feeling overwhelmed, and no place to vent...

Ugh, getting sucked into other peoples chaos is no fun. So stinky that this is happening to you! Have hope that it will work out, the universe usually takes care of things. I think your community here online supports you, I haven't been on this board long but long enough to read how they all...

    My first commissions.

Teresa, I'm in the same boat. I am going to do a local charity/craft show at my niece and nephews school. Mostly everyone there has gotten "free" soap from me, which believe me, I don't mind but this came up and I thought OK, maybe I would be OK donating some money and maybe taking a small %...

Wow! That is crazy!! What a bummer! Nothing like having to medicate over a body scrub!!! Yikes!!

Whaaaaaaa, can't use this soap I made :(

It stinks when you make soap and then you can't use it!! I made a Lime/Tea Tree soap, it's so cute, brown on the bottom, green on top, smells so nice in the shower. It stings my skin. It's fully cured, no zap. I have crazy sensitive skin and it was a stretch for me to make a soap with tea tree...

    trying something different... help please!

Thank you DeeAnna! I did a quick search thinking I would find a listing for HO oil vs. just Sunflower oil and didn't see any difference online. I had just bought some to cook with and as you guys know, you can't cook with oil now without thinking, hmmm... how would this work in soap?? LOL...

I think I found my people......

On the side note of the significant others, mine bugs me to make stuff so he's on board. But darn he wanted a coffee soap. I don't drink the stuff, I'm a dainty tea drinker myself, (LOL) but I finally caved and just made a coffee soap. Looks cute but wow what a smell. Those Colombians know...

    trying something different... help please!

Ah, I see, I did not know that! I have not worked with Sunflower before. I "read" someplace to not use more than 15% of it in soap, that is why I asked. But if it's on the internet it must be true, right????? LOL!!! Thanks again!!!!
