I am trying to use up some oil and butter before they go lancid. I came up with this.
avocado butter 84%
coconuts oil 13%
caster 3%
what do you think this will turn out?
water39% (water/milk 4:6)
5% superfat
Thanks for compliments!
I have tried different ratio and I came to conclusion that I like 50/50 as I can add breast milk after water, lye and oil are well blended so that breast milk is least affected. You can theoretically make 100% breast milk (or any milk) but your milk is more likely to be...
when i was bf-ing full time, i never had enough bm to spare. after a few years, i am still bf p.r.n. and have extara that is sitting in freezer for months--soap making is a great way to make use of it!

thank you for all the input! I'm just afraid that I get trace right away again if I try the same recipe. so I thought I need to modify a bit.

I made soap with
RBO 65%
Avocado butter 25%
CO 5%,
Caster oil 5%
5% discount
38% water (50 water/ 50breast milk at trace)
oil and lye were both 42-43C when mixed.
I got trace after 10 minutes of hand mixing, so I added breastmilk right away. 5 minutes later, it was really thick and I...
Other soap maker told me that even after rancidification, it can function as soap and usable. Just smell bad. Not sure about DOS though.
Anyhow, I appreciate all the comments!
I do not care so much about scent as I havene't tried any.
So it looks like the oil that matters more, and how...
wow, thank you for sharing everyone! I never used EO in my soap. 20year-old soap is impressive. it is good to know that some
additive won't seem to affect the quality.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Stinkydancer
isn't it interesting that it can be hard to make the exact same soap even with the same recipe!
>Just wondering why would someone make soap out of breast milk?
people who make breast milk soaps usually do that as memento of living (or...
Additional note:
I selected oil/fat carefully for the above purpose. The following list is the combinations of oil/fat I have used so far (all of them are 5% discount, 38% water-50/50 milk and breast milk):
1) OOl 72%, Cocoa butter 28%
2) OO 70%, Cocoa butter 25% CO 5%
3) OO 70%, Avocado...
I am new to the soap making, and want to know what is the best way to keep hand made soap for a long time as a memorial memento, and what recipe work better for that purpose.
I heard that soaps containing certain kind of oil are meant to be consumed sooner, like peanut oil and almond oil...
if you use liquid that is not clear (like milk carrot juice) it is difficult to know if lye is completely dissolved there could be a chunk of lye left in cured soap which you may not see if it does not appear on the surface.

could it be a problem of lye not completely dissolved and consequently was not saponified? Or not cured long enough and high pH? i have heard a horrer story that handmade soap burned fingers.
