Preventing Gel - Do you still cover with plastic?

My questions in the title. I just made a batch of Star Anise soap. And I really want to prevent gel. It's in the freezer, but do you normally still keep it wrapped in plastic, even when it's in the freezer? I think plastic can help to avoid ash, but I also worry that the plastic might aid in retaining any heat.

I cover & freeze. Has always worked out for me and I used to have very thick molds.
