So i found this recipe online for a melt and pour base and want to try it just for the hell of it:

5oz Distilled Water (for Lye)
2.5oz Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)
5oz Castor Oil
6oz Coconut Oil
6oz Tallow
9oz Propylene Glycol
3oz Glycerin
3oz Sugar dissolved into 3oz Distilled Water

My question is, I have a transparent soap recipe that calls for alcohol as one of the solvents, can I sub the alcohol instead of using propylene glycol for this recipe?

Not realy, if you use the alcohol you will have transparent soap but not M&P. The Propylene Glycol is what makes the soap meltable.

Thanks, will see if I can get my hands on some propylene glycol. That might not be easy in this place!!
