If you are thinking of using the "rice paper" type of tracing paper. NO! It will stick to the soap. You need to use something that has a coating like freezer paper has, a plastic like or waxy coating that has non stick properties. I use freezer paper, works great. I have used parchment paper(for baking) very successfully, although other soapers say it sticks and wax paper does not work well, also sticks and is hard to peal off. HTH

Ditto what birchcoulee said. Freezer paper is really the way to go. You can get a big roll of it for about $5.

yeah, don't use wax paper. i tried that once. often places with a butcher will carry freezer paper. it's what they use to wrap the meat, if your having trouble finding it.

My husband's a butcher, and he doesn't use freezer paper to wrap meat.

His product (which is what most butchers in the US use) is a paper coated with silicone on side. It's actually sort of hard to tell which side -- it's not that shiny at all. I think it would work as well as freezer paper, but it's not the same product. The paper is a different weight, and freezer paper is much more slick. Also, some butcher papers are sprayed with an anti-oxidant so that your meat stays pink where it would usually go brown in contact with the air. I have no idea how that would effect soap. (It's some sort of a mineral salt, but I'm blanking on the name.)

huh, the two butchers i go to here use freezer paper just like i use to line molds. that is so weird. maybe it's a regional thing?

I picked one of the first links I could find -- my husband actually uses a brown version of this one.

That one's guaranteed to have a neutral pH, which means it's been treated with something. I can't remember which company my husband orders from, but they also have lining paper, bright pink, which goes in the trays and separates one stack of steaks from the one below it. Liner paper is specifically treated to prevent browning, and it is sometimes called "light butcher wrap".

But you can see from the main page, that there's a difference between butcher paper and freezer paper.

If the butcher paper in your area is free to use, and it works, then go ahead and use it! And if your butcher uses freezer paper, then so much the better!
