what are your fave ratios for OO, CO, PO and castor

If this has been discussed a lot here on the forum I'm sorry, I searched. I've noticed a lot of recipes on the net that have CO as the big % oil and some that have PO and CO equal with low OO and some castor. Then I found one that had castor really high%. I know I can use soapcalc but I just...

I need opinions on soap dimensions Please

I have a mold that is 8 x 8 and I poured it to about 1.5 inches deep, 2 lbs of oil. If I cut it into 9 bars they will be a little about 4 oz each or since I'm just giving these away, should I cut them a little smaller?

    Squirrels

My 4 yo neice asked me yesterday when I was going to make some more soap with squirrels in it! I just finished a 4 lb batch that fit the 2 molds from BB perfectly. The tray mold and the square bar mold. Note to self - when you pour soap into a silicone bar mold it stays where it...

    Real quick soap storage question

I'm starting to collect some soap around and need my drying rack space for more soap. I ain't gonna slow down making soap. Can I just put all my soaps in a cardboard box, say seperated by wax paper, and that be it? They are different scents, 1 is dragons blood, so that's why I'm axin'. John

My order from BrambleBerry just arrived

I got some lye, a tray mold, a mold for bars and some palm oil. Only 1 problem... They included a sample of an FO called almond biscotti and I can't use it. YA' WANNA KNOW WHY?? It smells so good I may eat my soap! Honestly, I opened it and sniffed and was hungry. That's just wrong...

suggestion for high humidity areas and lye

O2 absorbers are used in dehydrated food storage, mostly for long term storage in survival circumstances. I haven't tried them yet but I have some and think I'll use 1 next time I open some lye. It seems that if you seal the lye in a vacuum, it would help prevent as much moisture getting in. I...

LOL! What a mess! Wax paper really doesn't work

I've used wax paper on a couple of batches and had no problems at all. The last batch I made I added coffee grounds and dragons blood FO, mixed it a little warmer (105ish) and poured at earlier trace, still about medium I would say. I used a cardboard box lined with wax paper. When I finally...

Ahh! The pleasures of being a newbie

:D I love not knowing exactly what will happen. I used soapcalc and decided to go with 50% OO, 24% CO and 25% lard. all the properties look really good with this combination. Here's the fun part. I decided to add green to half and swirl in the mold, I added some coffee for exfoliant and added...

first batch of goat's milk soap

It's a lot different from regular soap. I used cocnut, palm and olive oil and added the lye to the goat's milk without using any water. I froze the milk so that was no problem, it just took a while and turned a real nice yellow color. Man it got to trace full fast! I was going to marble 2...

Getting ready to make first 4# milk soap

I have a friend who has a goat farm, so I have an endless supply of goats milk. This is the recipe I'm going to use - 32 oz olive oil, 16 oz palm oil, 16 oz 76* coconut oil. I am using a 5% discount. I used 6 different soap calculators and got 6 different liquid/lye amounts. There isn't a...

using mattel vacu-form to make molds

I found my old vacu-form in my parents basement and thought it'd be agreat way to make forms. The vacu-form was an oven with a vacuum in it where you put plastic sheets on top of what you wanted to shape, then turn it on and it would heat up and vac down the plastic over the form.

what will happen if I wait longer to unmold soap?

I just found out I'm going to be out of town when I should take my soap out of the mold. It says 2 days, tomorrow, and I will be gone till Sunday. Should I take it out today or wait?

    I couldn't wait! I made soap...

I made 2 1# batches (we don't need no stinkin' batches!). The first was all olive oil unscented. It seems castille would be a good one to start with. The second was half olive and half canola scented with sage citrus. It is too much fun! My only concerns are the lye and static electricity...
