    Clays and shaving soap

hi everyone I'm thinking of making a shaving soap next, and after researching, come across comments about using clays to help povide 'slip' Just wondering whether I could use any clay. I have Green Argiletz Clay and Australian blue clay as well as dried dead sea mud. Would any of these...

Which EO can be taken internally?

I was just wondering how many of you take EO internally. I've heard of peppermint being safe to add to water for upset stomach but which others are safe for internal use, and what are the benefits?

    Soap Supplies in UK??

I've just started out and here's wher i got my stuff: coconut oil and palm oil and olive pomace oil from a local asian store (99p for 500g each) caustic soda from a chemist down the road - i had to ask the pharmacist as it was kept behind the desk, prob for safety reasons. So you should...

    Soap without using coconut oil

Coconut oil seems to be the mainstay of most soap recipes, and rightly so, with all its bubbly sudsing action! I was just wondering whether anyone regularly makes soap without it? e.g. palm and olive oil only? I know such a soap may not have lots of large bubbles, but would it have its uses...

    Cinnamon Leaf EO

OK, thanks, will do. Ill try it on my hands then, when I can summon up the courage, try in the bath. Won't be pleaseant if it causes 'irritation' in certain regions but there's only one way to find out. I nearly ate some of it the other day it smells so nice, all cut up into cake slice pieces!

    Cinnamon Leaf EO

Just a quick question: is cinnamon leaf EO safe to use in products like soap? Just read about its potential irritant effects ad wondered if it's ok to use in dilution? I knew it should not be used neat on skin. Made some cinnamon and ginger soap a few days ago and am worried it'll go to waste...

    Salt bar recipe

I did the same as you but made a miscalculation. Sorted now though, thanks for the help. Will use soapcalc from now on, much easier to calc exact amounts for superfatting. Just poured my salt soap so just hoping I judge the time to cut it corretly or i might need to buy a chainsaw.

New here, a little reassurance needed!

Washed my hands with the soap I made last week, left them silky smooth all day long. No skin dissolved at all! Winner! :D

    Salt bar recipe

Used 'Majestic Mountain Sage' lye calculator. Checked on soapcalc and you're right, get different amounts of lye. Which is a bit worrying since I've made two batches using Majestic already. Which should I use? And are the differences significant? A was led to believe that precise measurements...

    Salt bar recipe

Thankyou very much. It's nice that you'd offer such advice when we live in a world full of takers. Seems everyone here is just as kind hearted. Will look into blending it. I do own The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless and it doesn't mention it being sensitizing, so thanks for the...

    Salt bar recipe

I know there are other threads on salt bars but I'd appreciate some feedback on my proposed recipe. I have trawled the forum to try to get a good idea on how to make a successful salt bar and intend to try it tomorrow. 500g coconut oil 80g lye 100g coarse sea salt (i've read that people...

Is the zap test a reliable way of testing whether it is lye heavy?

New here, a little reassurance needed!

Hi everyone, I'm new to all this but am becoming obessed! Was inspired after my gf bought me some Lush soaps. Loved the smell and the way they made my skin feel. GF's gone now but the soap obsession remains! I've made two smallish batches in the last week and all seems well so far. Bought...
