    Four Week Cures??

I usually use small scraps to wash my hands with new soap, but I have some soaps that I only love after a 12 week cure (50% OO). HP, I wait about 2 weeks.

    oatmeal stout- Picture added

That sounds wonderful. I'm doing a home brewed indian pale ale soap tonight (if the kids let me by actually sleeping...) and I keep debating on adding scent to it. I think I'll leave it as is and take it from there. Or maybe Cypress and Bergamot..? hmmm

    HP is crumbly

I'm sorry. It was late. I did mean 38% water as part of oils, not 38% lye solution. I haven't ever figured it by lye solution. Maybe I should start.

    HP is crumbly

wow. i haven't posted in forever on here! i was using my bf's laptop for the longest time and just lurked around in here, but didn't post anything. so hi, i'm back. :) i haven't had the crumbly problem with my HP soaps, but I've been using 38% water. I just wanted to know if anyone does...

    My first batch ever---

Also guilty.. and I write down how they are each time I start a new one to see where in the curing process I become happy with them. :)

    Not another salt bar question!!!!

I don't know about tea tree oil, but I used a citrus EO at 1oz ppo and it was gone before the soap was done curing....not sure if it was the citrus or the salt, so I'd love to see people's responses on this, too.

Using an oil you've never used before

It was a movie about a man conflicted with himself and starting a fight club, but he used fat left from liposuction to make soap... good movie, though... sort of a cult classic now. :)

    Coconut milk in CPHP?

yeah, that was what I was worried about with the salt bar and since I haven't gotten an answer on that one yet, I'm going to wait. But my CM is going to be the first HP batch I try.

    Coconut milk in CPHP?

Thanks for the responses! I think I'll just try it with frozen milk first because I'm worried about ruining the batch by not having enough liquid for the cook. If I don't like it, I'll just make a teeny batch the other way. :) I'll let you guys know how it turns out when I do it... which will...

    Coconut milk in CPHP?

That's what I'm not sure about. Cause I know with HP you use the full liquid amount so it all cooks out, so I'm worried if I only use 1/2 at first, it will burn or something.. I've been looking through the posts but haven't found anything, but I'll keep looking. :)

    Coconut milk in CPHP?

I'm planning to try my first CPHP batch and I want to make a 50% coconut milk soap. I'm wondering when I should add the milk... at trace right before gelling or in the beginning? I can't add it at the end because the soap would have too much of a water discount while cooking, right...

What is it that makes soap feel sticky? When rinsing...

While I don't have an answer for you, the first batch I made did this really bad at first. After 3 months sitting, it's significantly better than it was, but I still feel it directly after rinsing. Once my skin is dried, it feels fine and even softer than before showering, but that initial...

    Possible allergy to handmade soap???

The only time I got that feeling was when I just couldn't wait to try a salt bar I made. I only waited a couple days and tried a small chunk to sample and write down the initial reaction (then I do this every week so that I know exactly when I like the soap) and it was so harsh that my hands...

Do any craft stores carry soaping supplies?

You can also find small 1oz tubes of cocoa butter and small 4oz bottles of castor oil at CVS. cocoa butter is with the skin creams and castor oil by the children's laxatives. :) I use Whole Foods for essential oils right now, because they're 5 mins away.

    Trying a new recipe

Our apartment is in the basement and most of my batches come out looking like yours with a partial gel. It's annoying because it takes forever for the colors to match up. Over 3 months on one and it's still not quite the same throughout. I tried using the oven to help, but with no luck so...

    I have flakes !!!!

Ok, you've piqued my interest. Do you rub down your lye measuring container before using it??? I HATE using the beads, but I have a large quantity and need to use them up before searching for the flakes.

Cut your own soap slice? Anybody offer that?

I see this at my local Whole Foods. They have them in like a large wheel, kind of like a cheese wheel with a cutter and charge $1.29 per ounce. Not sure how well it does, but people sure handle it a lot.

    Milk soaps and PVC moulds

Not to derail this thread, but you caught me with the pre-mixed lye solution. How do you know how much of it to use? or are you just making one recipe with the same lye mixture all the time and mixing enough for a certain number of batches? That's a great idea :)
