    1st time making soap

Which book do you have? There's one out there (Norma Coney's "The Complete Soapmaker" published by Sterling) that has a potentially dangerous misprint in the lye mixing instructions. Anyone who hadn't made soap before or read other books could hurt themselves quite badly if that book was the...

    Anyone see Thor??

@ Fyrja: I get what you mean about Conan. I feel exactly the same way about those big-screen Transformers movies. :( I finally got around to seeing Thor this week, and enjoyed it a whole lot more than I expected to! I read loads of Marvel comics growing up but Thor was never one of my...

What music are you listening to??

@ Deda: Great picks all around. :) I've been listening to Gordon Lightfoot's "Summertime Dream" this evening while cleaning up and making a big batch fo chili for next week's lunches. :)

    Woodwork!

Hi all! In addition to my new soapmaking addiction... *cough* hobby, I mean... I also do a little woodwork when I've got time. My current project is a custom media/TV cabinet I designed to store my growing collection of vintage video game consoles and games. This project is made of almost...

Can you recover a separated bacth?

Uh oh... one of the batches turned out zappy after all. BIG pockets of undisolved lye showed up when I started to cut it into little pieces. :( Will rebatching help that at all, or is it time for the bin?

Can you recover a separated bacth?

Thanks, guys! You've given me hope :)

Can you recover a separated bacth?

Well, from the looks of things, I've got not just one but two separated batches on my hands here! I made two batches on the weekend and both of them volcanoed in the molds, and last night I unmolded and cut them to find they had separated. I've got big globs of veg shortening marbling the soap...

Those look great! I love the colour swirl you got on 'em. :)

    My soap keeps foaming up!

Thanks for the responses. I don't have a photo... kinda tricky to take a picture when you're trying to keep hot soap from pouring out all over the place! Anyway, my lye comes from a local soapmaking supply shop (www.soapandmore.com) and my pot is a big stainless steel stock pot. I'm...

    Trace

Here's a tip from the new guy: There's no need to spend good money on a brand new stick blender! I picked mine up at a thrift store (Value Village) for $5.99. They've usually got at least three or four of them there, so if/when this one burns out, I'll be heading back for my next one. :D

    My soap keeps foaming up!

I've looked around but I can't find any help on this topic, so asking here seemed a good idea. Typing "foaming soap" inot Google comes up with hundreds of results, but none of them are any help! I've done two batches of CP soap in the last few days that have both foamed up on me, so I must be...

    New in Soaptown!

Well, this being the introductions forum, I guess it's easy to figure out why I'm posting here! I came across the site a while ago and there's a lot of great info and knowledgable folk here, so I figured I'd sign up as I start in on my own soapmaking hobby. Looking forward to the discussions...

    Pour Lye into water...right?

For the record, the book with the bad directions in it is Norma Coney's "The Complete Soapmaker" published by Sterling. I've got a copy right here next to me and the error instructing the reader to add water to the lye is on page 34. From what I understand, this was corrected in a later...
