Just remember that you have to spend money to make money. For some people the $400 might be a good investment. Like if they can save a bunch of time and then use that time productively to make more money. It depends on the person and the business whether it's a good decision to buy one.

I'd rather have a compound miter saw. ;)

I hear ya! I have been trying to cut time corners...
