Pumpkin soap

My next door neighbor loves my pumpkin soap which I have made in the past with fresh pumpkin and she wants more to give as gifts. But now that it is hard to find fresh pumpkins I have to resort to canned. I have a can of pumpkin puree but it is expired do you think it is ok to use or should I just bite the bullet and go and buy more? I know its just a few dollars for the can but I hate to waste what do you think?

How long expired? If it's just a few months, I'd think it would be fine..
If it's years, I'd say NAH!!
open it and smell it, probably the only way you're going to know.
