I have a lot more respect for it now! I had to go to urgent care to get it to stop bleeding, and they couldn't even give me stitches on the middle finger because there was no skin to sew over the wound.

The PA that took care of me told me that his grandfather wears chainmaille gloves when he does something or another...

I think I just need to pay attention to what I'm doing!

yiiee. heebie geegies in my knees... and I thought I was going to get to see a pretty soap

Hope you heal in short order!

That is sooo awful. :(
I hope that your injury won't sideline you for too long. Feel better!

 poor you..... i totally sympathize....i had my own trip to primacare earlier this year, a mutant paring knife and the side of my finger had a close encounter of the wrong kinds....same thing...couldn't stop bleeding......try not to get it wet....hard to do....

ouch...
that certainly makes me rethink my desire to get a beveler... I can manage to hurt myself standing still in an empty room.

MsBien: sorry you had to go through that experience. A lot of people don't understand why I get angry when I'm using a sharp edge tool and somebody talks to me...
Anyways, I wish you a fast recovery. :)

In case it might help, I have found, for personal experience (a lady friend of mine figured it was a good time to have a fight with her boyfriend, while she was cutting deli meats with an electric machine) that sugar works wonders in keeping the wound clean and promoting skin regeneration.

Ouch! Please feel better soon. How did you slice your thumb and your finger?

Bright side? No doing the dishes!

Thank you all for your wonderful sentiments, it does make me feel better. The worst part is, I wasn't even beveling soap at the time. I was moving it from one place to another and it slipped in my hand. I first cut my index finger, then in a moment of brilliance tried to catch it with my thumb.

I'll try that sugar idea, thanks Inodoro!

Chickweed, taken internally or mixed with honey & applied as a poultice will reduce scarring & aid in healing as well. One of my friends was badly burned (3rd degree burns as a result of falling in a campfire). The honey/chickweed poultice was applied 3-4 times daily (after a trip to the emergency room), and before his next dr. appt. the skin was healing over the bandages. The burn specialist asked him what we had been putting on it because he had never seen a wound that bad heal that fast.

To stop bleeding: cayenne (capsicum) will help stop the bleeding. Burns like fire, but it will stop it. There's a lot more info on capsicum here:

ETA: I'm not a doctor or an herbalist, this is just a personal experience I have had with using the herbs above. I use it whenever I have an open wound.

You're very welcome. :)
When you change your dressings, just apply sugar generously to the wounds (it may hurt a little) and bandage it back. Believe me: if you do it tonight, tomorrow morning you WILL be amazed.
