Hello everyone. :D I have always wanted to make my own soap, and I was researching online and I found this forum. I have never made soap before but my sister did years ago, and when I saw what she made, I loved it, and now I decided to make my own. I initially plan to make it for myself, family and friends, then if I find people are asking for more I may consider a very small business if its worth my while. I am researching about the equipment I will need to get started, molds, supplies etc......but before all that, I want to learn the difference between cold press soaping and pour and mold.....although I know the basics here, I want to learn more about if one is considered a better quality, lasts longer, and basically the inherent qualities of each I know the pour and mold soaps are much less time consuming and easier for beginners, but maybe the extra time and work put in to make cold press soap is worth the effort, to make better quality soap...or perhaps they are both of equal quality :?: I greatly look forward to reading all I can, but I will first have to learn how to navigate this forum, as Im a little lost right now!![/b][/b][/b]

Hello and welcome! :D

Both the cold process method and melt & pour soaps have their own advantages. In my opinion, neither is better than the other. It all depends on the person making the soap and the quality of the finished soap - using a good quality MP base also helps. (Also, MP soap has the benefit of almost instant gratification. ) CP soap needs to be cured for at least 4 weeks. Scroll down on the Board Index page and look through the Photo Gallery. You'll find pictures of both types of soap and you can see how elaborate some people can make them.

I see lsg has already posted a few links but I wanted to add a few more that you might find helpful.

Anne-Marie's youtube channel shows both types - http://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv
Plus her blog has tutorials for both types - http://www.soapqueen.com/
agriffin's blog - http://www.lovinsoap.com/
Soaperstar's blog - http://soaperstar.blogspot.com/

However, don't forget to read through the Melt & Pour and CP sections for more info.
