Since a down and dirty test I did, comparing my original shave soap using 100% SA (well, probably 95-97%) to the performance of the more readily available "SA" which is a combination of Palmitic and Stearic, I think I have much less heartburn about the switch. One things is slightly strange though. It "seems like" the soap made with the Palmitic acid containing version is harder than that of my original. Does that even make sense?
The solubility and all of the other properties seem the same, but the soap itself feels harder in the tub. Of course I am not doing Rockwell tests or anything like that. I noticed it seemed harder to "smoosh" into a container. After that I did a real scientific thumbnail test where it deed seem a tiny bit harder.
