Do milk soaps need preservatives?

Do they need preservatives if you are going to sell them?
Will they go bad over time?

I have never added a preservative to any of my soaps, milk, beer or water. Never had a problem with any of them so I would say no preservative needed.

I add a small amount of Vit E to most of my batches so that kind of covers if I need one and folks like that it's in the soap. Sort of a 2 for 1, bang for your buck.

I should say I also use 50% OO and I also use Canola oil so I do worry about DOS and that's why I got Vit E to begin with although Vit E as a preservative gets mixed reviews.

No preservative needed. The high pH will take care of most nasties. I don't use Vit E either as I feel it gets eaten up by the lye.

the soap itself is hostile to bacteria therefor it is safe with milk
vit E react in the soapmaking so it is useless as a preservative

If made properly, goat milk soaps last very nicely without preservatives and anti-oxidants.

I have a milk soap that is over 5 years old that is still in perfect condition, no nasties or DOS, I am very surprised it hasn't gone bad yet, it was made with the 3 basic oils and GM (my very first soap)

I've never used a preservative in any of my soaps.
