You only really need to use half the amount of VS unless your vanilla content is really high. So if you have an ounce of fragrance oil, only half an ounce of VS will do. I make the same recipe and yes, it's a bit thick. I make sure my MP is melted on the hot side (but be careful not to burn)...

Why bother melting the shea? Whip all your ingredients for about 7 - 10 minutes and you'll have a wonderful whpped shea product!

Yooper, I made a body butter very similar to the one you are describing above, but put cocoa powder and peppermint essential oil in the mix. I cannot stop slathering it on myself! It is so wonderful!

Lindy, what I meant is how many oz do you put in the tube per steamer? My tube arrived yesterday, I made my very first batch but I over-wet it and that was a bust then this mornign I did my second but put too much per tab...i just wonder if you weigh it out.

Overheated M&P soap base smells bad.....REALLY bad!

I can't seem to get them evenly sliced. You measure with a ruler? Do you just nick the soap where you want the cuts to be? What do you use for a loaf mold?

Lindy - do you use the tube to package them as well, like in the picture? How much mixture do you put per steamer in the tube? Does your mixture harden / dry out before you're finished making them all? How many do you get per batch do you think?

I'm looking for a great massage bar recipe. I've seen the 1/3 ratio of butter, oil, wax but have also seen 23% wax, 23% oil, 56% butter. I'm just trying to get ahold of a really great massage bar recipe! Also, what fragrance do you like to infuse them with? Thanks everyone!

Do you let your M&P sit for a bit after unmolding to "cure"? Just curious if it may harden up the bar, therefore maybe making it last longer. Thanks!

LOL I call it VanChocStraw because when I was a kid, my mother used to buy neopolitan in this huge tub, it was a very inexpensive store brand (I have 6 other brothers & sisters so it had to go around) but anyway, it was called Van-Choc-Straw! That's why!!:p

The loaf I just made last evening. It's Vanilla-Chocolate-Strawberry, which I will slice up and lovingly name the bars "Van-Choc-Straw" It smells soooo good! The other is a pic of one of the MANY cupcakes I made for the Christmas season!
