    Understanding mold capacity

I just multiply the amount in ounce by 28.35 to convert to grams. Or you can also use this: http://www.metric-conversions.org/weight/ounces-to-grams.htm Thanks for all the comments. I do adjust for water discount but essentially I just make a guess, so I was wondering if anyone has a more...

    Setting up CP Soaps Inexpensively?

Are you in Asia? I get my stuff from Daiso too! It's a little over $2 here but so much good stuff :)

    Understanding mold capacity

Water discount No answer to your question but I also have a follow-up question about accounting for water discount. Tried the .4 multiplier with a water discount and it didn't fill my mold. The stickied thread on estimating oils has a post that says that the .4 multiplier is equivalent to...

    Egg white soap

Just found a local supplier for albumen powder. Will be grabbing some next week to try to make that fancy egg white soap. Just curious if anyone else has tried making egg white soap?

    Does sodium lactate inhibit gel?

My experience, it doesn't. Though every time I tried adding Sodium Lactate, my soap ends up crumbly when I unmold. I heard they do that if you add too much. I used 1% of my oils the first time and tried two more times at .5%, still crumbly :( All batches gelled okay though. Covered with a...

    Waiting. UGH!

@Calichan, I think soapmaking is one of the most challenging hobbies for someone like me. I have very little EQ, I fail the marshmallow test everytime :) The tops of all my soap probably have my fingerprints where I prematurely press to see if they're ready to unmold.

    Freezing water for lye

Hello! I use ice cubes for my lye water mostly to slow down trace. As for how to mix it with lye. I weigh the ice cubes first and fill in the last 100-200 ml or so (depending on the size of your batch, mine is normally 2 pounds) with cold water. Then add the lye little by little. Don't...

Made a boo boo and miscalculated the lye :(

Keeping my fingers crossed for "highly conditioning soap." Will post pics when I unmold and cut :)

Made a boo boo and miscalculated the lye :(

Hello AlchemyandAshes! Thank you very much for the reply. I ended up just leaving it be. The superfat is something like 28% but I figured that since I got it to trace, it may still become soap and not a slimy mess (probably wishful thinking on my part). Anyway, will post an update in case...

    Waiting. UGH!

For me the waiting I hate most are the times before your soap is ready to unmold and the times before they're cured and ready to use :)

Made a boo boo and miscalculated the lye :(

Hello, long time lurker and on-and-off soaper here (picked up the habit a few years back, make a batch or so every year or so) and only experimenting with it now. First of all, thank you so much for all the great info and tips. A huge part of why I'm making soap on a regular basis (or trying...
