    Using high % of Neem

I want to make some large bars for animal use using neem, it’s so effective for sweet itch in horses. However I see neem in the soap calc so I need to use it as an oil rather than making a bar and adding it as an essential oil. I want the soap to be effective and wondered what’s the highest...

    Gelling vs not

Hey, im still a newbie so sorry if this is a daft question.. The gelling process - can anyone explain the whole thing - and then compare it to when your soap doesnt go thru the process. Just thinking of my GM and choc bars, the bars that were insulated gelled and made a dark bar, the ones left...

    Rooibos and Star Anise (pics)

Saw some Rooibos and Orange herbal tea, so had a plan.. discounted some of the water in the recipe and made a concentrated tea with a few of the bags, also emptied the bags into the tea. Made the recipe as normal, at trace added back the water infusion and added a large cup of ground star anise...

    Ph q

So about Ph, if you do a test with a ph testing paper and your soap comes out after say two weeks curing with a ph of about 9-10, obviously this is way too high, what ph are you aiming for? Most of mine are on a 9 at curing stage of 3 weeks in.

    Chocolate Milk soap pics

Substituted half the water content for goats milk. Coloured with cocoa powder and this also gave it a chocolatey scent which I boosted a bit with a Butter Bee FO. The ones in the small molds are holding the colour, whilst the one in the square mold which i have wrapped in towels is changing. so...

    Seperation Anxiety

I did a full GM recipe yesterday..substituted gm for water, and on adding the lye it curdled as I expected it would, added oils and stick blended, no added extras in this one,but the curdling disappeared, and I have a clear mold and can see that its setting beautifully, although im going to...

Heres an idea I had for simplifying a milk recipe

So tell me if its viable before I do it! Wanted to do a plain goats milk soap, using fresh milk. The recipe I had in mind was my basic one, but adding half of the normal water content, then the lye, then the oils etc, and at the end where you would normally add fo's etc, add the rest of the...

my brainwave didnt turn out as planned

I had an idea to make a nice pink bar this evening.. I infused the water for a few seconds with some fruit tea, and it turned out a lovely fuschia shade.. When i added the Soda, the mixture immediately turned green, then a deep creamy caramel colour...and went into the molds just now a nice...

when to cut - your preference..

For you seasoned soapers, when do you like to cut - after taking from the molds, or after leaving to cure for a few weeks? Im after a uniform, neat edged bar, have cut my first few batches straight from the mold but the edges dont come out too clean.. Is it going to be too hard to cut if i make...

    Troubleshooting!

Second batch for me - used a half teaspoon grapefruit seed extract as recommended in Melinda Coss's book to speed up trace time. Used a recipe with coconut oil, rapeseed and sunflower oil. Recipe doesnt call for temp monitoring. Did the figure 8 drizzle and didnt see anything happen, but being...
