    Bartender's Hand Balm

I wonder if using a softer wax would still give you the result you're looking for but would be easier to apply? I'm not really sure about the different melt point of waxes but I'd imagine like oils they're all slightly different. So something with a lower melt point might apply easier..?

    Bartender's Hand Balm

I'm a SAHM, doing dishes all the time, washing hands after diaper changes, making soaps/candles/b&b products my hands are in water A LOT! My hands have been getting SO chapped and dried out, and I don't like the feel of lotion on them, I think I'll give this a shot and see how it goes, thanks so...

    Coconut free recipe

I really have no idea Hazel, I'll have to plug some numbers into soapcalc and see what it looks like. I would like to use a fair bit, although lard is quite a bit cheaper, so I might make that a bigger number than I was originally planning on. I really like the way cocoa butter moisturizes and...

    Coconut free recipe

Hi all! I haven't been around for a while because I've been taking a bit of a break from soap making, but I'm back at it and would like to develop a coconut free recipe. I had done one (and took notes!) but I managed to lose my notebook (think my little one might have accidentally thrown it out)...

    So frustrated - OMH woes

I had issues when I did OMH as well (got mine from Village Craft & Candle here in Canada). It all went fine while I was making it, after I poured in in the mold I nearly instantly got separation! About an inch or so of oils on top with a solid mass in the bottom of the mold (also wooden) I ended...

    Air bubbles be gone!

Also pouring at a lighter trace will help the air bubbles come out when you bang the mold..but make sure you're traced!

    Oops....

That's pretty much how my first hanger swirl turned out..I think it's pretty though! I found that beefing up the hanger helps make the swirl stand out more, I used a straw covered in plastic wrap.

    Aftershave..preservative?

    Thanks, that does help!

    Aftershave..preservative?

I'm looking to make an aftershave balm, since it might have damp fingers in it, I should use a preservative right? What would you recommend? This is the recipe I'm looking at using: 1/8 teaspoon essential oil 1 teaspoon glycerine or honey 1/4 ounce of beeswax 1/4 cup nut oil or vegetable...

    Superfat Entry on the Calculators

I don't mean to sound rude, but based on your question, are you sure you understand superfat? All oils need to be added to the soap before you pour it in the mold. Also, when doing Cold Process soap it doesn't matter when you add your superfatting oils. The lye will take the oils it wants. If...

    Solid Perfume

I imagine that's how it used to be done, but the video I watched on youtube wasn't intended that way. I ended up doing a half and half blend of beeswax and oils (coconut and sweet almond in equal parts) they're alright, though it does seem like I went light on the fragrance. I made 4oz of base...

    Solid Perfume

I was watching some tutorials on youtube, one was just a melted scented candle put in a locket. *shudder* I've got coconut and sweet almond oils, as well as beeswax. Is it really as simple as choosing a carrier oil, adding beeswax and scenting it? (Obviously with something skin safe!) Anyone...

Can I make good soap without tallow or palm?

I don't use palm or tallow (or lard) the first recipe I started with was 75% Olive, 20% Coconut and 5% Castor with a 6% superfat. It's a good recipe to start with. It was shared with me when I started because it's good to learn on, it doesn't trace super fast or slow, and gives you a good feel...

    Shipping *within* Canada

The envelopes I use are I think 6" long by 4" wide and then typically about an inch thick. I just get them at walmart you can get 4 or 5 of them in a package and they're a lot cheaper than the ones that the post office sells. onraet, fedex charges crazy amounts to ship with, for small...

    A variation on pumpkin soap

I was afraid of that Debra! Also, there is some debate on if the vitamins and such are retained after saponification, I like to think they are, otherwise why spend the time making milk soaps and veggie soaps? I wouldn't be 'planning' on the benefits, but it would be a nice side effect of using...

    A variation on pumpkin soap

I know you can use pumpkin puree in CP (and HP) and it's best to just sub part of the water and freeze it. I was wondering though if you might be able to use pumpkin pie filling? I did ask this somewhere else it was suggested that the spices in the pie filling might be an irritant, but wouldn't...

    Shipping *within* Canada

I typically send in padded envelopes if I can, then it goes as 'small packet' instead of a 'package'. The smaller you can make something the better! As Lindy said, the more you're shipping the better it is as well, so make sure you let people know that.
