Months after curing soap turns yellow orange and smells bad

Yes my recipe is 9 % combined linoleic/linolenic, and iodine is 61. Since one of the soaps that turned was my unscented uncolored bar, I am thinking it is the addition of the RBO. Which is new in the last 18 months. I pulled soaps that were 8 years old, prior to the addition of RBO, and they...

Months after curing soap turns yellow orange and smells bad

I checked the dates on all my oils and none have expired, but will probably stop using rice bran oil. Almost all of my soaps have turned out fine except for these 2 batches. The bad thing is that it didn't turn for 5 or 6 months and were already on store shelves by that time. So I feel horrible...

Months after curing soap turns yellow orange and smells bad

It is the whole bar. It happened after curing 6 months in both cases. OO pomace and rice bran oils are a new addition as they were less expensive that pure OO. Started using them in the last 2 years. I get my oils from Soaper's Choice at Columbia Foods.

Months after curing soap turns yellow orange and smells bad

I am not new to soaping. I have been making soap for over 9 years. I have a nice small successful soap business. In the last 7 months I have had 2 batches of soap that were around 6 months old change color to a yellow orange and smell awful. This has never happened before. One soap was scented...

Increasing scent longetivity in cold process soap

I have a problem with some of my scents fading away after a year or so. It is the worst with essential oils, especially citrus oils. I read that a lower PH may help. Has anyone tried adding citric acid to their soap to increase scent life?

    Soaping with rice oil

Is anyone using rice oil in their soaps? I read that it is very conditioning. Olive oil is getting so expensive that I am thinking of trying the pomace / rice oil 50/50 blend. They have made beauty products in Japan with rice oil for centuries.

Best place to buy 76 degree coconut oil in bulk?

I also get mine from Soapers Choice. I buy 50 lb drums and ship it to Montana. It comes out to $ .14 / ounce after shipping, $ .13 / ounce if I order 2 drums at a time which is what I usually do. Great quality. I also get my palm, avocado, castor, and almond oil from them. I search the internet...

    More on Preservatives

I think Germall is a non paraben but has Diazolidinyl Urea, which was recently listed as may be carcinogenic. Many over the counter lotions contain one of these. After the warning on Diazolidinyl Urea I have changed from Germsall Plus to Neodefend. It has worked well in my lotions, but have had...

    WSP versus Brambleberry's.....

I want to eat it too. It is gorgeous. What do you use for color, it comes out very uniform. It looks ungelled, is that right. Great soap.
