How much fragrance oil to use?

I’m just getting back into soap making after a year off. Previously I used essential oils but I’m considering fragrance oils to see if they last longer. My recipes give the amount of EO but I’d it the same amount I would use for FO? I made one batch with FO and it still smells so lovely but I...

    New Years resolution achieved!

Thank you for those links. I’m going to try the second one where she essentially creates embeds for a second soap. I’m thinking pale green and cream for aloe Vera and coconut water fragrance. Can’t wait til after Xmas to have a go!

    New Years resolution achieved!

Silver mica from a company called The Soapery. It’s cured lovely, still pretty new at 8 weeks cure but I’m getting a nice lather and the spearmint fragrance is lush. Can’t get any eucalyptus though sadly

    New Years resolution achieved!

Thank you Mobjack and Zing 🤗 I’ve had an awesome soapy year. Next year I’m going to try refining and neatening up the patterns And try to make a polka dot soap for the aloe Vera and coconut water fragrance oil. I’m already wondering if using a pipette will work to create the dots 🤔

    New Years resolution achieved!

    Acceleration pre adding EO

I cut both blocks this morning and I am really happy. I thought the first batch was going to look dreadful and on the top it does but that’s fine. I’m can see the pattern I wanted it just needs refining and a thin trace will hopefully solve that issue. The second batch I went for a simple faux...

    Acceleration pre adding EO

Thanks. I had much more success repeating this at room temp but have ended up with soda ash. I need to start covering to force gel, or try isopropyl spray maybe. Looks good though and I can clean it up just for aesthetics

    Acceleration pre adding EO

I’ve possibly got the ratio wrong. I’m using 211 g water and 105 grams lye with a 5% super fat I use the soapmaking recipe builder on this site

    Acceleration pre adding EO

Oh wow i really had to spoon it in so I’ve no idea what it will look like. I’m ordering more tea tree tonight and going to make more later this week. I will definitely post photos though. I was planning to post some pics as I feel so proud of my soapy achievments this year. My new yr res was...

    Acceleration pre adding EO

Absolutely 😊 i do usually soap cooler after I had a volcano but I’ve been gettimg soda ash and read on brambleberry that soaping warmer could potentially eliminate that happening. do you have an opinion on soaping temps? I definitely do appreciate constructive feedback. I’ve learned so much...

    Acceleration pre adding EO

I made a batch of soap today using a recipe I have used for over a year now. I hand whisk to avoid too thick a trace and today stopped at emulsion as I wanted a thin trace to try a faux column pour pattern out. I added the batter using a ladle into jugs with mica and it thickened right up before...

    Lighter colour soft oils?

Yes we can. My OH has loads for making candles as well 😆 They are gorgeous. I have soap envy I don’t expect nor am I aiming for pure white esp if I don’t change my oils. The lightest I got was a creamy yellow so I’d like lighter than that or maybe I should say less yellow toned. I can increase...

    Lighter colour soft oils?

Thank you. Always appreciate constructive feedback. I’ve not really been soaping that long so I’m always grateful to anyone with more experience who takes the time to write. I was considering simplifying my recipe so perhaps dropping the castor oil and increasing coconut oil by the same amount...

    Lighter colour soft oils?

I’m starting to play with colour and pattern but I’m struggling to get white soap. A fairly common problem which I can go some way to fixing by changing my recipe. I currently use SOA 29% CO 5% castor oil 1% palm oil 30% Shea butter 10% which are all fairly light but then it all goes yellow...
