    Dried Lavender

Hi, I am using dried lavender to decorate my soap. I was quite annoyed when I went to cut the loaf as it looks as though there are burn marks around the lavender. Any ideas on how to prevent this? In the photo I have already taken the dried lavender off as it didn’t stick very well either even...

    Essential Oil combination

I’ve just made a soap with Pink Grapefruit. I’m pleased with the outcome but find the essential oil hasn’t a very strong smell, I used 2% Has anyone any ideas what other essential oil I could use, maybe using 1% pink grapefruit and 1% of something else? Thanks

    Orange spots and honey

I have just turned out my loaf and for the first time ever I have orange spots! I have used 5grams of honey in 1.000grams of oils. I have done this before but I’ve never had orange spots before. I wanted to know what you all think, are they the dreaded orange spots and if they are can I still...

Using clay to enhance lemon essential oil

Hi, I have previously read on this forum that clay can be used to help the soap ‘keep’ the lemon fragrance from lemon EO. I would like to try this as my lemon cold process soap doesn’t smell of lemon at all, I use 15%. Can anyone tell me how much clay I would need to use and if it would change...

    Soap shrinking

It is the second time this has happened! My soap has shrunk in the middle! It was covered as usual and gels well, but after 12 hours it looks like this, so annoying! Never happened before just this time and on the batch I did two days ago! Any ideas would be most welcome. Thank you

    CPSR UK

Hi, I’m hoping a soapmaker in the U.K. can give me an idea on who to contact in regard to obtaining a CPSR. I have contacted a couple of companies, one hasn’t answered and the other has an extortionate fee. I suppose they are busy at the time of year. Many thanks

EO to use with honey and oatmeal soap

Does anyone have any suggestions on which EO would go nicely with a honey and oatmeal soap? I have just made one with a honey FO which I realise isn’t a good idea if I want a natural soap. Looking on the Internet it seems as though Jasmine would go nicely but it’s way too expensive... thanks...

    What are these tiny spots

I’ve just cut my loaf after 24hours and I have these very very tiny white spots, the soap isn’t grainy, it’s smooth to touch though. Can any one help? Thank you.

To gel or not to gel

I’ve finally got a few soap batches unfortunately only a couple have fully gelled. I’ve read in the forums that some like a gel some don’t. I’ve decided that I wouldn’t mind either but I really don’t like this ‘partial’ gel that I am frequently getting! I use a silicone mould in a wooden loaf...

    Coconut oil

Hopefully someone can help me in regard to coconut oil. When I buy it just says coconut oil, but on soap calculator it says coconut oil 76 deg Coconut oil 92 deg or fractionated. So I don’t know which one to choose when using the calculator - well I have used fractionated so far! Thank you

    Soap size

I don’t know if anyone can help me? It’s regarding the size of soap, apart from the shape of a soap - what would the ideal thickness need to be? I’ve been cutting mine at 2cm being 6/8 inch but the more I look at them they seem not quite thick enough? Thanks

    Problem after being cured

Does anyone know why this has happened on my soap? It’s now cured for 6weeks but there is a circle in the middle of the soap, some pieces have a larger circle. The soap is hard not soft and has a good lather. I used peppermint essential oil The recipe was 40 sat and 60 unsat.
