A soap as a drug? From a local soap maker.

I knew this guy that always had a lot of money. I asked him what he did to get it so I could follow his lead. Apparently I misunderstood what he said because now I am a soap dealer. Not the same money.

    Electric blanket to homogenize oils?

I put my hard oils in one of three crock pots to melt. Once melted I marry them with my soft oils in a 5 gallon bucket with a spigot. I take 1 gallon buckets with lids and then fill from the 5 gallon bucket. Depending on ambient temps I might microwave the buckets before use. While it is heating...

    LiLu soap molds...worth the price?

I can't speak to their molds but to their beveler. To take mine you would have to pry it from my cold dead body. I love it. Yes it costs a lot but it's worth it. You know when you have a professional grade tool and this is one.

No stir Palm in bulk WSP

So I used to use an ice cream scoop but better is a clay cutting wire. I just cut the cube into manageable sized blocks. It's much faster, you do it only once. I just put enough in to a bucket and it goes into the crockpot or microwave.

    Planer/beveler

My fav soap tool hands down is the soap planer and beveler. In fact as sort of a tool guy that has lots of all kinds of tools, it's in my top 5 tools ever. Well made, will last forever, looks like it did the day I bought it and I use it nearly every day.

    New member looking for help!

I spent ten years as a glass artist. Then came soap, well actually after other things then came soap. I have tried to replicate glass in soap with little success but many strategies. Opaque is easier than translucent or transparent but it will seldom look like glass, except a little bit when...

    Local Lye

Just bought lye from a local distributor for 2 bucks a pound. Had to do a little digging to find a chemical supply house but it was worth it. If you are near Seattle check out Cascade Columbia..but perhaps most cities have a similar kind of supplier. I had to buy at least 50 lbs but compared to...

Any tips for Melting Hard Oils Without Microwave

Crock pot works..Palm oil is slow but if you plan it's fine. I should add have the oil in a container first.

    Heat Transfer Method

Much of soaping strategies elude me. I've been doing this so long I started out believing that oils and lye needed to be within 10 degrees of one another....until I learned that mixing 200 degree lye water with room temp oils was the way to go. My maths couldn't work out that being a 10 degree...

    Rick's gone level crazy

So I usually make slab mold soaps. If your mold isn't really level you get sloped soap. So have been re leveling the soap mold table every time. Not sure why it doesn't stay level. I think the molds are a bit off but it was time consuming and frustrating to re level after each batch...So this is...

Farmer's Market cancelled because of nice weather

Our market was cancelled without notice yesterday due to some weather reports that might have included t-storms. The day was beautiful, sunny and no t storms. Sigh...loaded the rig, drove there, no one was there, no notice....sigh. End of Rant

    Best lye brands

Local suppliers might be best. Mine offers a 50lb bag at 95 cents a pound but has a weird 25 dollar environmental fee but still a bargain.

    Bigger masterbatch idea..will it fly?

    Bigger masterbatch idea..will it fly?

Ok that makes sense. I don't have at present more than one recipe. I love the one I have. So off I go..thanks.

    Bigger masterbatch idea..will it fly?

So just to be sure. If my former single batch mix had x amount of water and x amount of lye= my lye water. When I make a masterbatch of 6x of lye and 6x of water when I go to pour off 1 batch worth of the lye water mix...it is the total of water and lye amount for a single batch that I would...
