    water substitutes

I have used red wine also and love it. You have to be careful though, because it can freeze in the middle of pouring...so I don't use 100% wine. John

    gelling versus fridge

I was always anal about gelling until I read the book "Smart Soapmaking", by Anne Watson. That has been on my top shelf ever sense. Before buying it I read a lot of negative articles about it because there were not enough pictures...how silly is that?

Beginner Soapmaking Tips? Working with milk.

Hello, I like to add the lye to 1/3 of the milk (chilled) and then add the other 2/3 of the Milk (frozen) to keep the temperature of the lye mixture down, so we don't burn the soap. I don't add the frozen milk all at once. I'll add half and as it melts add the second half. It really isn't as...

How to figure how much oil for mold.

All you have to do is find the area out and then multiply it by .4. It doesn't matter is the mold is square, round, or a triangle. Unfortunately I don't remember the formulas for round or triangle, but that is why we have Google right? John

Hello, good luck. I got lucky, because our formal dining room was never being used and my wife loves making soaps with me. So, I went and made that my nice little soap room. Now our entire bottom floor smells incredible all of the time. John
