Simple soap from pantry - need help with recipe

I don't question her action as a mod to tell me I'm rude (or direct for that matter); but Lindy's judgement regarding my experience. I'm always very willing to help people. Sometimes I forget to put on my "velvet gloves" when commenting on something, for which I apologize.

Shaving soap with NAOH and KOH?

You're partially right here. Most of the ingredients mentioned here usually don't stand on their own. Limonene being the major exception, as it is added to a lot of cleaning products for its extreme good cleansing properties. (Hence the citrussy scent of a lot of household and industrial...

do salt(ed) bars always stay crumbly?

I think there are almost as many possible recipes for a salt bar as there are for other types of soap. :) IME fine table salt gives smoother edges to the bars cur from a loaf. Results in "pour-ability" also depend on the fragrance oil you use. I think the more and coarser the salt, the bigger...

Simple soap from pantry - need help with recipe

Right, opinions differ. I'd agree with a zero cleanse bar for certain purposes, like shaving or facial soap for example, but for a general toilet soap it might be turned up a notch IMHO. Who's nasty here now? :D Not a fundamental remark; your "clairvoyance" regarding my experience failed...

Castile type soap with Hemp & castor - need suggestions.

If you ask me, you're not going anywhere with the oils and butters you suggested, as long as you want to keep the OO at 72%.Kokum, Shea and SA don't have cleaning properties of their own. IMHO the best bet would be 62 OO 10 hemp 5 Castor 23 coconut oil. to make it simple. Replacing more OO for...

Simple soap from pantry - need help with recipe

You definitely need some coconut oil in your soap. I would suggest at least 20%. just likes others have suggested as well! soap is meant to clean, yours doesn't. (Cleansing = 0) good luck unmoulding the soap you propose too - it's way to soft.

Finding raw ingredients - bit of a rant

Lucky you :D Here the price of pomace, traditional and EVOO is the same. One exception is a very good quality of EVOO of course, which is pricy - and even can sky rocket, just like a selected wine. ;)

    Where Can I Learn..

Great links in the posts above. But to get you started the following: People used to make soap of those oils and fats that were available locally. That means that in the Mediterranean countries Olive oil was the main, if not only ingredient in soap. In Other countries that could have been ...

    Making MP from scratch..

What happened today :D My SIL was given four soaps as a present from a colleague who vacationed on Bali (Indonesia). He handed those to me with the question if it was good soap and if he could use it safely. ;) The soap is transparent, with opaque shavings. First impression: the soap...

    Worst soaping experience EVER!

I feel for you. :) That was quite an adventure! But who's complaining? You've got a good looking soap in the mould, and that's more than a lot of people can say after a FO debacle. Waiting for the cut pics.

    Thoughts on Soap Maker Software

It probably is... The program assumes you start from zero, while you're probably stocked up sufficiently. @soapsydaisy One way to get started is to create a fake purchase order listing everything you have in stock. Use a non-existent supplier (called "Stock" for example); so you'll recognize...

    Making MP from scratch..

Yeah, you're right; $7 is a bargain. :) On the other hand, it depends on your experience and knowledge of ingredients, how useful the rest of the information is. ;) Also - if you're not a fan of tensides/surfactants; perhaps this way of soaping might not be your cup of tea.

    Aleppo Soap and French Soap...

Wrong place - NO capitals! I don't want to be rude, but: I'm not a moderator, but IMHO, as a vendor you should comply to the forum rules and advertise only in the "Sponsor Display" sub-forum.
