    Preservative question

    I agree with Susie, we don't use anything to preserve soaps. We learned early in our journey purchase small amounts of oil and increase with time. Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Beef Tallow.

    What are your best practices for preventing soda ash?

    After pouring into loaf mold depending on the formula spray with 91% alcohol and wrap with plastic wrap. In other cases spraying with 91% alcohol works perfect.

    Nothing wrong with upcycle. Its beneficial to your budget. I don't think you are crazy. Matter fact recycling old t-shirts for clean up saves money too.

    palm vs lard

    No experienced with lard. Soap with Palm Oil on occasions. Spraying 91% Isopropyl alcohol on top of the soap helps with "Soda Ash". Often times soaping at a lower temperature decrease soda ash as well. One last trick that has help with soda ash cove the soap up with plastic wrap

    Discoloring FO

    I try to stay away from FO that discolor soaps. However, sometimes I just go with the flow. Often times customers like the unique look. ;)

    Table Sugar to Increase Lather and Bubbles?

    We use to use 1-2 tbs per pounds of soap to increase the bubbles. We modified our recipe so we no longer use sugar.

    Using 1tbsp per 16oz works for me. Added to the oils b-4 the lye solution. I've even added to the lye water at room temperature. NO changes for me.

    Soaping with either OOP (olive oil promace) or OO (olive oil) depends on the creator. Personally using both; depending on which recipe is being requested. My motto is use what works with your budget without cheating your audience.

    For personal use, fine grain is preferred. Never used a pink Himalayan salt and no experience with grinding salt.
