    you need sodium hydroxide to make solid bars. as far as i know potassium hydroxide makes liquid soap.

    I use a cigar box as a mold all the time! I've done it with freezer paper as a liner...it worked OK. I also used saran wrap as a liner and that worked great. I still needed to shave some of the soap off, cause the saran wrap leaves some "wrinkles" but overall it worked GREAT and I don't plan...

    and why would that be a problem? I usually melt mine in the microwave but always wish it was ready to be poured without it.

    Breast Milk Soap

    I think it's a beautiful idea...although the recipients would have to have no issues with it coming from a woman's breast as opposed to a goat's tit. I say try it out!

    I started soaping in November...here is my first batch: Made with chamomile tea and oatmeal...made in a shoe box lined with plastic. Then I made some awesome lavender soaps in a PVC pipe (bad pic, I know). I used 2 ounces of lavender essential oil in a 2 pound batch so they came out...

    2 pounds of lard soap with no super fatting to use as laundry soap. i added lavender to get rid of any pig smell the lard may leave. looks good so far...this should save me money!

    I've always wondered about that too, do you need to spray the first layer with alcohol before pouring the second layer? i've read that somewhere. gorgeous soap by the way! looks good enough to eat.

    Lard...smell

    Perhaps I did overheat the lard while melting it.... I don't think it was the olive oil...I kinda like the olive oil smell on soap. This smell was very much a wet dog/pig/animal smell. A shame since the soap would have been gorgeous otherwise. Thank you all for your replies.

    Lard...smell

    I'm new to soap making.... the last batch I made was 50% lard, 50% olive oil...I fragranced it with peppermint essential oil. It smelled great... but then I tried the soap....It left the smell of wet dog on my skin!! My question is..does all lard do this? My lard was Armour brand by...
