    Soy Wax Users

I read through your thread and it’s obvious you’ve done quite a bit of research but I’m still unsure if I’m understanding your findings. Can you give a quick, clear breakdown of the FA profile of GW415 including stearic content? Thank you!

    Almond fragrance?

Appreciate the suggestions! I’m still unsure. I suppose the only way to find out is to order a few samples... uggh. Has anyone tried the Almond scent from Aztec?

    Almond fragrance?

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I probably shouldn’t have said a marzipan scent. I only remember that from when I was a kid and thought it smelled just like almonds. Anway, that’s what I’m looking for. A mostly almond scent without too much of the cherry smell. I looked at NG’s plain...

    Almond fragrance?

I’m looking for a almond FO that does not have a strong cherry smell. More like marzipan but not one of the sugary, pastry type scents. Any recommendations?

    Soy Wax Users

Thank you very much Andrew for your contributions to this thread! I found your posts very informative. I’ve used GW 415 a couple of times thinking it was fully hydrogenated and was curious why the results were unexpected.

    Soap Recipe Recomendation

This is not a very good one I’m afraid. I made mine and most everyone found it drying even with a higher SF. My lard soap is the most requested from my friends and family. 55% lard 25% HO safflower 15% coconut 5% castor Simple, cheap and battle tested. Friends and Family Approved.

    Soy wax for shaving soap?

Update - the soap came out of their molds just fine. They are pretty firm but a little sticky from all the added glycerin. Lather isn’t bad. Definite room for improvement. Question for those that use hydrogenated soy wax. Does it turn your soap a yellowish orange color? I’ve used the same...

    Soy wax for shaving soap?

Thank you KiwiMoose! Well I made my soap this morning. What a mess! I tried it CP. I wasn’t thinking straight and added about 9% glycerin without discounting that from my liquid. Im so used to making HP. It all came to trace beautifully and according to my infrared thermo, it was about 150f. I...

    Soy wax for shaving soap?

Thanks for the reply. Have you ever tried to CP shave soap with soy. Just curious if you had any tips on that. I had a bunch of shave soaps but I joined a FB group and gave away a lot of them. I think I’ll try the 50% soy. Playing with the calculator I can get the stearic and palmatic to...

    Soy wax for shaving soap?

My girlfriend bought some Eco wax 415 to use in her candles. From reading through the mega shave soap thread I found this is used to make shave soap. I’ve made 5 small batches of varying shave soaps so far. Now my curious nature wants to try the soy wax but CP. Perfect timing since my little...

    How do they do this?

That pattern which is very concentric goes all the way through the soap. I just cut the bar in half. It’s like a Mandela pattern. It looks so perfect that it seems like a machine did it. It’s not colored so to speak, just different shades of white. Could it be extruded or something? Thank you...

    How do they do this?

Always curious about soap I buy and use and this one has me wondering. It is a semi hard shave soap from France, small mother and son, farm operation. They make soaps using donkey milk they raise. Ingredient list is very simple; Donkey milk, Stearic acid, coconut acid, potassium hydroxide...

Help with Citric Acid Math! Please!

I have horrible hard water and want to add citric acid to my shave soap. Im terrible at math. I've read and re read DeAnna's Classic Bells tutorial and think I have it right. Would someone be kind enough to check my figures pretty please? I want to use 2% Citric Acid. Total oil weight...

Olive oil vs HO Sunflower oil

Thank you for your helpful responses! Sorry it took me so long to respond, posted my question right before I left on a vacation. Found the appropriate HO Sunflower oil in my local grocery. Making my first batch later today. I'll post my results in a few weeks. Here is the recipe I'm going to...

Olive oil vs HO Sunflower oil

Thank you for your reply! Maybe I should rephrase. I made a 100% olive oil soap and like the slimy, slick feel. I'm wondering if a 100% High Oleic oil like sunflower/safflower will provide the same quality?

Olive oil vs HO Sunflower oil

Count me as one of the weirdos that like the slimy feel of soap made with a high percentage of olive oil. I don't like the cost though. Will an oil like a high oleic sunflower or safflower oil provide the same slimy, slick feel? Is it the oleic acid that creates this or is it something that only...

My first shaving soap is a success!

Thanks for the reply, i was hoping you would answer. I do use tallow and glycerin. I'm thinking maybe it should be what NOT to use or maybe smaller percentages to give slickness. Could it be other oils added after cooking that give slickness? My best recipe so far is - 45% stearic acid 30%...

My first shaving soap is a success!

So, I'm ready to start my third batch. My first two came out good but not as slick as I think they should be. What contributes to slickness (besides clay).

    Fragrance Buddy FO test

Can someone help me please? I only have 1 FO and that is all I have used, very boring I know but I don't make much soap. I'm getting together my stuff to make a new soap and thought it would be nice to get a different FO. I went to the FB website and they have so much selection. I got lost for...
