    White stuff on top?

As a newbie, I dont know what the white stuff on the top of this soap could be. This was "too small" of a batch and I realize I could have probably messed up the ratio of lye/water/oils... But can anyone identify what it is so I know if it happens in the future? I do believe it happened after I...

    Looking for ideas...

I tried to find a good recipe for my 1lb mold - and have a few ideas but was wondering if anyone is willing to share their percentages? I have coconut oil, castor oil, and almond oil to use... Any suggestions? Should I add in a different type of oil or take out any? This is my first time...

    2nd /3rd Batches - And a few Questions

It is softer - I haven't used it on my hands but I guess now that its cured 4 weeks I should at least try it. I don't like the way it looks or feels. as 12soap said, I am doing to small of batches and I probably did the cinnamon one more accurately (to the recipe) than I did the turmeric ones...

    2nd /3rd Batches - And a few Questions

Thanks everyone! Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, they are all very helpful. To answer some of your questions, I am super fatting at 5%. I also make sure to use a little less Lye than what is suggested simply because my batches are so small and I didn't want to chance excess lye...

    2nd /3rd Batches - And a few Questions

Hello everyone! So I am happy to say that, even though for my first batches I am only doing small amounts, I have had quite a bit of success with my soaps. Although in my 2nd batch, I did two kinds of soap - and realized I changed to many variables to really know why they turned out sooo...

    3rd time lucky?

Im another newbie to soap making - but from what I have read as long as you combine oils and lye/water mix when they are around the same temperature, that shouldn't be creating any problems. I haven't had any while I've kept to that rule, but I'm only on my 3rd batch as well. Are you...

Martin-Scott: Congrats on your 2nd batch, they look awesome! I've found a few recipes I like so far, and just decided to wing it with the coloring... It worked out great for me, but everyone has their own method and what works best. I am definitely thinking about "function" when making my...

    2nd Batch

Ok - I'll admit it, I am slowly but surely becoming addicted to the art of soap making. I know I am still a newbie, but things are coming along. I have been trying to keep my bars simple, ingredient wise; and started trying different colors. This is how they turned out (picture attached.) I...
