Quick Question re: EDTA & Trace

Does adding it to a formula change the trace rate at all? In other words, does slow down, accelerate, or do nothing to trace?

So I received this certified letter in the mail yesterday...

I'm not asking for advice. I know what needs to be done. But I'll just leave this here and you can form your own conclusions and if you want to discuss, I'm happy to talk about it.

    Dual lye question

Does using naoh change the lather in any way? Or is it just to increase the body?

I need to vent. Lost 5.5kg of oils today

A supplier, who shall go unnamed for the time being (depending on how they resolve this), sent me NAOH instead of KOH. And of course, the only real difference in the labeling is that is says NAOH instead of KOH (abbreviated). So, I'm making the soap and after I put the lye in the oils, I realize...

What exactly are the regulations re: ingredients

I understand that soap doesn't need an ingredients list, but what if a maker decides they want to put one on? Does it have to be accurate and conform to the descending order of ingredients standard? Can they use a fanciful list that says "this soap contains XYZ oils" and nothing else? I'm...

What makes the fatty salts different?

I'm trying to understand what we get after saponification and why some are considered an emollient and all the mysteries of the universe while I'm at it. So, why are they different? And on the same note, why is sodium XX-ate different than postassium xx-ate. Do they behave differently? Why?

    Trademark law question about (type)

While I'm fairly well versed in the law and IP, I am stumped as to how a fragrance can be marketed and sold with the exact same name as some trademarked fragrances, just by adding the word "type" to the end. Is it simply because these are being sold under a different category (fragrance oil...

Too many vendors! How to choose?

Even with the scent review board (helpful, but most posts are very old) and this forum, I'm finding it really hard picking suppliers and scents. Obviously the only way to know for sure is to buy a sample from everyone, but that's just cost prohibitive. And reviews are 100% subjective. For...

Closest FO to BB's Hungarian Lavender?

I really love the scent, but would prefer an FO for longevity & cost. I'll probably cave and just buy the EO, but... if anyone's got an FO that's close enough, I'd like to know about it.

Curiosity: Will soap cure without air?

I understand that it won't harden and lose the excess water, but would it still gain the rest of the curing benefits? For example, pour/glop the soap into a plastic jar, wait a couple days, put the lid on, wait for 6 weeks. Would it be the same cure, but without the hardness? Or would it just...

Commercial grade v. 99.9% pure stearic acid (Is there a difference in the soap?)

Having learned that commercial grade stearic acid is really only about 50% stearic or so, it's made me wonder... Does it matter? The numbers for palmitic & stearic are nearly identical, but is the lather different? Is purified stearic slicker? Anyone experimented? What's the difference in...

Help adding FO to HP that's thick as dough

So at 190* my recipe has the consistency of dough. What's the best way to add fragrance to it? Stand mixer? Power wand? Potato masher? Sodium lactate? While it works completely fine unscented, we all know scent is the spice of soap. Thanks in advance.

What are the features and benefits of your soap?

Looking for inspiration and just wondering. May not ever branch out of shaving soaps, but I am curious what the USP of successful ventures is.
