My lard based soaps going rancid!

earkene earlene, yes It's ROE by Crafter's Choice. I don't see a percentage on it's label. Honestly I don't remember where I came across that recommendation, maybe Soap Queen? Can't be sure..

My lard based soaps going rancid!

Yes, a recipe I revised from my original 60% Lard, 30% CO, always 5% SF, always 5% Sun & Castor, been using it for several years, but always sells quickly, I usually make Lotsa soap 3 times a year for markets, wholesale, park visitor centers...never had to hold onto it so long. MUST address the...

My lard based soaps going rancid!

Wow, such great questions Dee Anna, and thanks. My go-to recipe, run through Soap Calc: 45% CO, 45% deodorized lard (50# cubes from restaurant supplier), 5% castor oil(Chemistry Connection), 5% conventional sunflower seed (Walmart gallons), 2000 vit. E, 15 drops ROE, hot processed. I have many...

My lard based soaps going rancid!

Since all the all shutdowns starting in March here in our part of Missouri, so many of my lard based soaps (45% lard, 45% CO, and others) have gone rancid while waiting on my venues to open . I always use ROE and vit E, but they've still gone bad. Most, not all. My customers have always loved my...

    I'm From Missouri

Good morning! Just changed my password so I could log in & share-it's been a while! Get a Grip Soap Co is my business name, inspired by my oldest son, now 40 years old! For the past 6 years, I've evolved (and hopefully) improved my product & small soap business. Gone from selling at local craft...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Maybe I goofed? I melted my oils and mixed my lye water three days ago, intending to let both cool to room temp (HP), but then stuff happened and it's like I said THREE DAYS. Do you think my lye water is still good? Should I dump it and mix again?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I got dirty, does that count? Ha! Seriously, in my other life, Hubbie and I are Market gardeners and raise a few cattle. So today was GARDENING AND FENCING day. It was wonderful to come in this evening ans shower up with my cucumber melon castille. I call it "Redneck Woman". I do believe I'll...

What soapy thing have you done today?

My list of Soapy things so far I'm looking out the window at the effects of the snow and ice storm last night... AHHH HAAA! gathered a 5 gallon bucket of Ozark snow:p to thaw in the mudroom, edited a few labels, and watching a movie whilst stripping lavender buds from their stems. I'll cut two...

    Rebatch possibilities?

How about a Salt Bar? Great support here! I've grated about 1/2 the batch and rebatched it with a little rainwater & 80% sea salt. After reading all I could find, it was worth a shot, even though the percent of CO is a little low. It's hard, but haven't used it yet. Now, today going to putting...

    Rebatch possibilities?

Alright-y then! Thanks everyone, live and learn, huh? I'll probably use each of your suggestions, great that my soap "failures" aren't really a waste, after all. Repurposed?? works for me. Thanks, again

    Rebatch possibilities?

Hello to you all! As my first post, I 'd like to rebatch 4 lbs of soap I recently made up using 60% Coconut Oil,(yeah, I know NOW, too drying :???:) 15% lard, 15% beef tallow, 10% new crisco. It's about 4 wks cured. I like the microwave method, so my question is, what & about how much could I...
