    Coffee oil question (again)

That black sludge in the bottom is the good stuff. It's actually coffee oil--not coffee-infused oil. I use my soaked grounds in scrubs and soaps, my infused oil in soaps and butters, and the actual sludge I'm trying to save up--but I do add a little to butters and balms.

What to do with over colored soap?

Is it fragranced? If not, grate it up and add it to some hot process soap, just after separation and let it cook through with the rest. That's what I would do. If it's got fragrance, make an uncolored version of the same recipe and then rebatch that with a portion of the colored soap. Or if...

Sales pathetically low, what am I doing wrong?

In my opinion, and it is just my opinion, you should put the online sales on the back burner. (Spruce up your website and take off the pricing--that way you charge what is appropriate to your sales venue. For now, its only purpose is to provide reference and credibility. You can always come...

    Coconut EO?

There is no naturally occurring Coconut fragrance or EO. Fig leaf smells like coconut, but it's banned from use. I was once convinced that I could make some. After cracking and scraping a coconut, putting the meat in ethanol and letting it soak for two months, I ended up with some really nice...

    streaks

Sounds like stearic streaks. What percentage of palm are you using? With pics we could know for sure.

About to make my first soap!

Hi Susie! If budget is a problem, check the thrift stores and Craigslist. I got my Cuisinart stick blender (the Quick Prep one with stand) from the thrift store for $2.90 and a new in box Crock Pot for $4.90. [Just make sure to plug them in and inspect fully before you go.] My postal scale was...

I think I am in love with HP

It's beautiful! Hot process is the life. It's the only method I use. I use yogurt as part of my liquid amount, and my soaps come out smooth and pretty...most of the time :) They say yogurt + lye = sodium lactate...but who knows. I also do a 75% olive oil soap w/o yogurt and it comes out so...

Cannot find these TINS! Looked all over 'net for months, HELP?

Not sure if this is useful at this point, but the dimensions you described are the standard 302x200 drawn tin. I got some from Independent Can Co. in Baltimore; the tops are smooth (not with the label indent) and the cans are good quality seamless. They sell in cases of 400 and have a west...

    Cheers from Rome - Italy

I would sell my firstborn for a good sauce recipe... This is my grandmother's recipe (she washed clothing and herself with this), but I added coconut oil: 75% Lard/Tallow 20% Coconut Oil 5% Castor Oil Welcome!

New soap with silk and almond milk

It looks so soft and beautiful--the colors are so peaceful. Did you use TD on the lighter portion of the swirl?

    Dry Scrub

Does it have to be a dry scrub? Would a bar of gardener's soap or exfoliating soap work? Sugar/salt scrubs aren't very effective without the oil component, in my experience. The exfoliants need some sort of "lube" to get a good scrub and water dissolves salts/sugars--making it hard for them to...

Who Are The Cheapest Suppliers For Soapmaking Oils

I forgot to mention: I've been getting Organic Virgin Coconut Oil from Costco; 54oz wt for $15. The price is so good, I soap with it and eat it. I love french fries cooked in coconut oil; don't judge me :)

    Rosemary & Mint Ratio

I like five parts rosemary, one part peppermint and one part spearmint for soaps and soaking salts. And I use mint in drops; whenever I try to just weigh it, I always use too much. The mint is just really strong anyway, so it plays up the "menthol-y" side of rosemary--so I find that this ratio...

    containers for body butters

Not sure where you are, but Container and Packaging has good prices (the shipping killed it for me). So, I use SKS Bottle; they only sell by the box, which was about 24 for the sizes I get. I got 48 containers & lids with shipping for about $50. When I used to use glass, I used Cape Bottle...

    Ugly Soap

I love Soapmaking Forum. Such a nice, kind, encouraging group. I was so sad when this soap came out looking like poop dropped in dirt. But I think I'll look at it in a different light and maybe try another batch. Thanks everyone!

What can I use in place of palm products?

It wasn't my intention to come off as being defensive or in "attack" mode. And it was certainly not my intention to attack you or knock your inquiries about palm subs. (Actually, I didn't ascribe you any blame or fault. Just voiced my frustrations with this new "movement" against palm oil...

What can I use in place of palm products?

Disclosure: I use Palm Oil It seems to me, that this "no palm oil" thing is a trend--the new hip cause. A lot of people are jumping on board, without really knowing what is going on. There are some serious concerns about how some oils are produced, but it doesn't apply to all. And to say...

Who Are The Cheapest Suppliers For Soapmaking Oils

I've been buying Spectrum Organic Vegetable Shortening (100% Palm Oil) from Target. It's $6.25 for 24oz and Spectrum has a $3 off coupon, if you like them on Facebook. $3.25 for 24oz of Certified Organic Palm Oil--can't beat it. (I got my family, friends, and some strangers to like Spectrum...

    Ugly Soap

This is possibly the ugliest soap ever... It's hot process and made with brewed coffee and coffee grounds. It doesn't smell like coffee at all, but it cuts odors like nobody's business.
