Lye Heavy, Bad Ash, or Steric Acid?

Thank you! Thank you for all the info. I feel better about it after the zap test (other than the taste in my mouth, lol!) Is overheating something that can cause ash? Every batch of CP that I try lately seems to get ash. Granted it has only been a couple batches. When I do hot process in my...

Lye Heavy, Bad Ash, or Steric Acid?

Sorry, I made it last Wednesday so almost 1 week old. I put it in the oven but not with it warmed or on. Just to keep the heat in and protect it from children and pets while it did it's thing. It did gel. Actually, it is possible I didn't mix it as much as I should have because I was trying to...

Lye Heavy, Bad Ash, or Steric Acid?

I made a batch of CP soap and did use soapcalc.net to figure everything. Added a tbs of pumpkin puree along with pumpkin pie fragrance from Bramble berry to half and did an ITP swirl. I got ash but I seem to get this every time I CP soap. This time I also got some streaks. They appear to all be...

CP vs HP cure time question

Thanks, for what it's worth. I just had a question. Not a request for critique on my searching ability. Also, there is nothing wrong with a "new soaper" loving their soap. They wouldn't continue to make it if they didn't like it. I "judge a good soap" by using it. I didn't ask about good soap. I...

CP vs HP cure time question

I just have a question that may be silly but I can't find the answer to. In hot process soap, you "can" use the soap as soon as it is cut. (Actually I use the soap from the pot I cook it in to test out the scent and bubbles!) I know that it needs to really harden up and that still takes a week...

    HDPE mold, seasoning?

I bought a set of HDPE molds before I read all the reviews about how they really aren't "no liner". I have read though that some people report that after some "seasoning" they have no problem. I also see a lot of larger production soapers use them. I guess I am just wondering what the secret to...

Need help! 100% Coconut Oil Soap For Laundry

New Question. The soap is hard, yay! It is still turns bright pink with the drop of phenolphthalein. Do I wait to cure it or just wear gloves and grate it? Then it would cure really quickly right so I could mix my detergent up fairly soon?

Need help! 100% Coconut Oil Soap For Laundry

Thank you for responding. It is always good to hear someone else say its OK when you are doubting yourself. I just checked it again and the top is already getting hard and the bottom is still really warm too. I actually just use a 4 sided cheese grater to grate my soap. I normally use Fels...

Need help! 100% Coconut Oil Soap For Laundry

OK, I followed the suggestion of making a 100% coconut oil soap with 0 super fat for using in my homemade laundry detergent. Most of the posts I found were talking about how fast it set up and grating it right away because it gets so hard so fast. Mine didn't really appear to do anything...

ED Red mold in it's new custom made box!

I read a post here where someone said they ordered a box from this place called Designcraft Industries to hold their ED mold. (I can't find that post now or I would just have replied to that one, sorry.) I clicked the link and checked it out and it turns out, the place is about an hour from...

    Soap Mold Attempt Failure

*FYI* Nail trick FYI, if you tap the pointy end of the nail with your hammer a time or two, it won't split the wood so bad. Bob Villa said it on This Old House years ago and I have used that trick several times while building chicken tractors and nailing into the ends of 1x4's and 2x4's.
