Back at it - first soaps of 2014

It doesn't smell exactly like beer, more like some kind of sweet bread/cake that has beer in it. An "edible" smell. I do like it, but it got kind of overpowering while the soaps were drying for the first few days. There was a kind of ammonia note that I didn't notice OOB, but that seems to be...

What to do with ugly but usable soap?

I don't see anything wrong with those at all, in fact I like them a lot! I find it difficult to get nice bright colors like that. When you said ugly, I envisioned the last batch I made, which looked like sliced cold refried beans :)

What would you do with this?

Thanks again, everyone. I tried one time to reproduce it, without success. But I will keep trying!

    water reduction and cure times

Probably until Christmas, when most of my cured bars will get wrapped and put under someone's tree :)

    water reduction and cure times

Here is the dry time graph updated through today. My test bars are still losing weight incrementally, but the curve has really flattened out. Interestingly, the bar with the higher original water content has stayed higher throughout the dry time and appears to be reaching equilibrium several...

    What I did in October

Thanks! The pink is Red #33 dye; it is getting pinker as the pH drops. Initially I was worried...it started out an unattractive liver color because of the greenish sea clay, but it's looking much better now (that batch is only about a week old).

Why do I love Fragrance Sample sales so much?

Here is what I ended up with. I have not soaped most of them yet except as noted: Oakmoss & Amber - smells amazing OOB. Will re-order for sure. Mediterranean Fig - really like this one too. My wife's favorite from this lot. Accelerated when soaped. Clean Cotton - soaped this one, it...

    Weird color fail

I know, right? If anything, I was afraid I was using too much color. Soap gremlins at work lately, I guess.
