    Palm free harder bar??

Can't help you there. I make plain soap. I get those 2 oils from Davis trading! I'm not into all the crazy stuff people do with their soaps on here. Too darn expensive! and I can't smell so kinda pointless for me. My soap is absolutely lovely as it is. (proudly smug!) Where you at?

    Palm free harder bar??

35% lye concentration. 1050g ooP 450g co 400g water 212g lye I do use pomace OO now, but the first few batches were regular. I couldnt tell the difference. I just poked an old bar from about 4 months ago and could still make a mark - with a lot of pressure. and the same with a month old...

    Palm free harder bar??

Well, hello! I'm in NZ too. I make OO70% +CO30% and find it quite soft. I always though OO was a soft bar and that's why you put a bit of CO in. So I have no idea why everyone is now saying it's a hard bar. You got me flumixed!

    Gutted

I gave away my fuglies to get rid of them more than anything and then people asked for more. Some want a dozen bars each at a time! and several others get a couple at a time. and demand to pay for it, too. Those who have never mentioned it again - Pft! hope they get a rash, hahaha. You...

    scummy lather from salt soap?

Ah, ha! I was under the mistaken impression you could bung salt in any soap recipe! I shall do a 100% co one instead. Thanks

    scummy lather from salt soap?

It wasn't 'solid lather' It were scum! Sort of like curdledness?

    scummy lather from salt soap?

I made my regular 70% olive and 30% coconut soap and threw in 50% total weight of table salt at trace. I like the riverstone effect but the lather?! Gross. It bubbles up all nice but then turns instantly to what can only be described as scum. I wouldn't even give this away.

    Big Loaf

Ah, so you can make huge blocks, then. I've been reading how you should always keep it small and was'nt impressed. 8{ My mold is a cube but I only fill it up on bar high. Now I shall quadruple my recipe and bung it all in my big mold! Heeeheee heeee!

    Ground Pumpkin Seeds in Soap

I just come on here to see what 'bits' people were putting in. I tried oatmeal, which I'd whizzed up a bit first and nearly drew blood! I would think punky seeds would be the same - But I love the idea of ground almonds (May I pinch that idea?) I wonder if it's the husky part that makes it...

Water - How exactly is it calculated?

OK, so I just put my standard recipe in soap calc with a 40% lye conc. and it came out at 21.2% of water to oils instead of the usual 38% that soapcalc starts up with. And a big red caution message ! My soap comes out just fine at 38% so I wont fiddle with it. (done enough of that!) But...

Water - How exactly is it calculated?

It seems to be a standard 6oz - 1pound oil. But where did that come from? Just curious really.

    yikes, not enough lye!

Hi thanks. I poked 14% into soap calc and the lye came out to 140.4g and the other figures were within acceptable ranges. so when I give some of it away I can call it super moisturising nourishing bar or some such BS! It was 70% olive oil and 30% coconut oil (=1kg) but it's fractionated co...

    yikes, not enough lye!

I've been searching old posts for an hour and can't find anything. I used the wrong amount of lye 141g instead of 155g (don't know ounces sorry) the soap is 2 days old now and still soft as. Sooo... A) will it be usable? B) how do I fix it? can I melt it and add more dissolved in a wee...

What are you soaping this weekend?

OK tried 100% CO and it was exactly the same as a beef fat bar and an Olive oil/CO and Palmoil bar - ie YUK! So I give up on shampoo bars! (Not really - I'll keep reading..)

shampoo bars drying out your hair?

aren't we all different! The soap I'm trying out makes my hair so manky and greasy! I was going to add lots of coconut oil to help dry it out. My hair got a bit dmamged yearly this year with colour stripping and a perm so I'd been ladelling on the conditioner, but have stopped doing that...
