    Possible Salt Bar Mistake

Well, if I in fact made that mistake, the SF would be 16% rather than the 20% I was intending. I'm glad to see that the world has not come to an end, and I'm pretty sure the soap will still be nice!

    Possible Salt Bar Mistake

I made a 50% Salt Bar on 5/2/21 at 20% SF, and I think I mis measured my CO. My recipe called for the following... CO 90% - Pounds 2.250 - Ounces 36 Sweet Almond 10% - Pounds .250 - Ounces 4 I'm pretty sure I shorted myself 2 oz of CO because I'm pretty sure I only weighed to 2 pounds 2 oz...

    Castile/Castile-ish soaps?

Zany, Do you keep your SF at 0% when making your ZNSC Bastile version?

Milk Soap - When to unfridge it?

Well, I haven't been soaping that long; but most of the soaps I make are milk soaps. I prefer to use goats milk (any brand I find at my local stores) and full fat buttermilk that I get at Walmart. I freeze my milk in ice cube trays the night or morning before and then store left overs in plastic...

    Wild African Honey

I kinda suspected as much. This is another product I purchased on a Black Friday sale that I've never really used so I figure I'll now just put a tsp in my soap and let it boost lather! I'm new enough at soaping that I didn't want to give myself a volcano mess. Thank you!

    Wild African Honey

Have any of you used Wild African Honey in soap, and does anyone know if it reacts differently than regular honey?

    Crisco

Thank you lsg! I strongly suspect you are correct. :) I’ll probably do a comparison and report back my findings, just cause I’m a bit of a curious cat.

    Crisco

The ingredient list on my can says... Soybean oil Fully hydrogenated palm oil Palm oil Mono and diglycerides TBHQ and citric acid (antioxidants) I’m reading the kindle version and it looks like the copyright is 2013. The paperback version looks to be a 2007 copyright.

    Crisco

I've been reading a book called Smart Soapmaking by Anne Watson. She has a soap recipe using a very high percentage of crisco, like 66%. Since crisco is high in linoleic acid, what is the likelihood of getting DOS in my soap? Because the ingredient is crisco, will the soybean oil in it behave...

Shea Oil in Cold Process Soap

I'm using the fractionated shea because I bought some about a year and a half ago thinking I would make lotion, but that never materialized. I have used it in my cleansing oil, but my house gets a bit too cold in the winter and it solidifies so I didn't include it when I made my next batch...

    Perfect numbers?

I've actually printed, read, and highlighted those two different articles mentioned above that discuss fatty acid and various soap properties this weekend; and I feel I'm learning a lot. I really appreciate the energy everyone puts into their posts. By the way, what does it mean when someone...

Shea Oil in Cold Process Soap

This is my idea... I want a longer lasting bar that is nourishing for my drier skin type that I will use on my face and body. Using a 5% superfat. Coconut 15% Palm 20% Shea Oil (fractionated) 15% Shea Butter 10% Lard 15% Rice Bran 20% Castor 5% SoapCalc says... Lauric 7 Myristic 3...

Shea Oil in Cold Process Soap

I have 16 oz of shea oil that I need to use up as it's getting to the end of it's shelf life. I know now that not many people use it in soap making. Any ideas out there on percentage used in soap that is not just wasting it (ie: using it up) but will actually contribute something to the bar of...

    Using Rice Bran Oil ?

Thank you all for your help! I've been studying the fatty acid profiles of the different oils I have on hand that I really need to use because I'm afraid some may be coming to the end of their shelf life. It's really interesting for me, after not making any soap for about a year, to revisit...

    Using Rice Bran Oil ?

I made a soap sometime last year that I really like, and I'm trying to figure out if the rice bran oil used in the soap is really complimenting it in any way. Recipe as follows... Lye concentration 33% and I added sodium lactate to the buttermilk lye solution. Coconut Oil 30% Crisco 10% Lard...
