You're welcome, Khanjari! If you already have plain base and raw Shea butter, I'd say go for it! :-) Best of luck to you - I really hope it turns out! -Lushie

Melt and Pour as Shampoo - Pleasant Surprise

Hi Khanjari! I used Bramble Berry's Shea butter base, and I added olive oil to it. It's my first soap! I added 1 Tbs. olive oil to approx. 7 oz. Shea base, but it wasn't lathering well at all, so I added approx. 9 oz. of white glycerin base to bring it up to a pound of base. (I didn't...

Melt and Pour as Shampoo - Pleasant Surprise

I finally remembered to try using my soap as shampoo, and it worked great! I used my shea butter and olive oil soap on my hair, and it definitely made my hair silkier and smoother. Thanks again for the great idea! -Lushie

    Green tea and Rosemary soaps

Gorgeous soap! I love it! I was flipping through soap making books at the library, and one of them had you actually steep the tea bags in the melted base - I would have never thought of that! I haven't tried it yet, but am certainly considering it, though. But I love the look of the tea bits...

Question about melt and pour soap additives

Ooh, ooh, I totally know this one! It's very similar to *my* first soap-making question. The basic rule of thumb when adding butters or oils to a melt and pour base is no more than 1 Tbs. per pound of base. If you add more, it won't lather very well. (Ask me how I know....) :-) I hope this...

    Am I missing something?...

Thank you so much for your insights, everyone! They are most helpful :-) AnnaMarie, I checked the reviews on Amazon, but nothing definitive - is there actually a soap-making book review website I am unaware of? Because that would be amazing! lsg, your post made me smile because I *just*...

    Am I missing something?...

Hello all, So, my first soapmaking attempts were according to "Melt and Pour Soapmaking" by Marie Browning. I love the ideas and the info, but I am a bit confused. One recipe has you add 1 Tbs. olive oil to 6 oz. of base. I did this, and it was way too much. I've also seen recipes that call...

    Too much oil?

Hi all, Sorry for posting before searching; I must admit that I "fell victim to one of the *classic* blunders!" I got all excited at finding this forum, and quickly posted my first question without searching the many previous posts first. After the fact, I did some rather extensive...

    Greetings!

Hi Seawolfe, I'm salvaging some shea butter and olive oil soap that I made - I added too much oil for the amount of base, and it wouldn't lather well. Next, I'm thinking about making a cocoa butter soap... we'll see! What are you working on? Thanks for the welcome! -Lushie

    Too much oil?

Hey there, I just made some MP soap that does NOT lather very well. I used 6 oz. of the Shea base from Bramble Berry, and I added 1 Tbs. olive oil per a recipe from "Melt and Pour Soapmaking" by Marie Browning. I also had to add a *lot* more fragrance oil than the 5 drops recommended in the...
