    Sodium Citrate Bar

Well i did it, after the discussion in this thread: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=52250&page=3 i went ahead and made a 100% coconut oil salt bar but instead of using regular salt i used sodium citrate. i made a small test bar with 50g of coconut oil, 5% superfat and a 40% lye...

Olive Oil vs Extra Virgin OO

i didnt suggest you lived in some third world country.. i dont think i wrote anything even relating to third world countries, i actually thought you're american. i never said you can taste the difference either, when i said we test out oils i meant lab test if that wasn't clear.

Olive Oil vs Extra Virgin OO

Although we produce a lot of oilve oil we also import a large amount, being able to taste the difference is not the issue, just because we have an official quality regulator doesn't mean we trust it, we do batch tests every 6 months or so, they should do what we do. Regarding your question, if...

Olive Oil vs Extra Virgin OO

I've never in my life seen olive oil that is yellow, olive oil is NOT yellow, there must be some other oil mixed in there, regardless of quality, pure olive oil, even if not extra virgin is green. i'm living on earth, not sure where you're living, i'm more then aware that there are fake EVOOs...

    Science-y thought/question

I'll give it a shot with a small batch of 100% CO with 100% sodium citrate added at trace, i'll report results.

    Science-y thought/question

Very interesting, so you're saying that if i add a large amount of sodium citrate to my soap and it becomes very soft, its not that im neutralizing the lye, the soap would be created as usual but it would just be softer because the citrate is affecting its structure? so if i let the soap stand...

    Science-y thought/question

Thats what i also thought, since sodium citrate is the product of citric acid + lye then combining sodium citrate with lye should not react, but then how do you explain the soap getting softer when adding sodium citrate to the mix?

    100% essential oil soap?

    heh i guess you're right ;)

Olive Oil vs Extra Virgin OO

absolutely ridiculous, EVOO is most definitely not olive+sunflower oil, and its also not just regular olive oil, it is the oil produced from First Cold pressing of the olives. regular olive oil is made by pressing the already pressed olives several times until nothing can be extracted anymore...

    Science-y thought/question

trisodium citrate (the one used in food and soap) has a PH of 8, so its not really an acid.. does anyone know if the sodium citrate actually neutralize some of the lye or if they dont react and the citrate just inhibits the lye from reacting with the oils somehow?
