    My experience with Sodium Lactate

I have read that sodium lactate will help harden soap and can harden soap quicker than without. I decided to try sodium lactate as I was also going to use silicone loaf molds. I have read sodium lactate can help soaps de-mold from silicone molds easier. I typically use 3" PVC for molds for my...

    GV vegetable shortening SAP

I am in the process of creating a vegan soap recipe. I have easy access to the Walmart Great Value Vegetable Shortening, and would like to use that as my base hard oil. I already use the tallow based GV shortening for my other soaps. I use soap making friend as a calculator, and it does not list...

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

You are the second person that has recommended powder sugar. All of the powder sugar that I have seen/purchased also has cornstarch incorporated. Does the cornstarch have any effect on the soap? BTW, I did a batch yesterday adding 2 tsp of plain white sugar disolved in water per 600g of oil. We...

Looking for something similar Dr.Squatch Stark

I did. I typed Dr. Squatch Stark Cleanse dupe, and did not have much luck. One major disadvantage that I have is that I have never actually smelled this fragrance. The packaging stated that it smells of amber and saffron. This is of no help to me either.

Looking for something similar Dr.Squatch Stark

Hello, My son in law really liked this scent from Dr.Squatch. It was a limited edition, and is no longer available. I am not familiar with this particular soap or scent. Does anyone know this scent, and how I might duplicate it for him?

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

I really am pretty satisfied with the original recipe. I given out about 15 bars of soap using that recipe to friends and family. The feedback has been very positive. The only negative feedback has been a desire for more lather. I agree with that. I also seem to get a lot of soap scum. Maybe...

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

I revised the recipe. Can I get some feedback on the revision? This looks like it will give me more lather. I am still very new at this. I really appreciate the feedback.

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

Maybe I could use some help getting the recipe out of Soapmaking Friend and placing it here. Is there a tutorial for that somewhere?

Need a bit of recipe help. Need more lather

I have been using this recipe, and am pretty satisfied with it. It does seem to lack really great lather. What changes can I make to increase the lather in this soap? Recipe created by Ozzietx https://www.soapmakingfriend.com/recipes/81707.gv-shortening

    Too new for complex recipes?

I agree about too many components for a newbie. Will follow the advice. Thanks also for the link. That was very helpful.

    Too new for complex recipes?

Thank you for the thread reference. I will definitely mix my lye solution the day before.

    Too new for complex recipes?

Well, this is what it looked like this morning. Not nearly as bad as I thought. I think I could do much better if all of the components worked together better. I will work on dissolving the components better. Any opinions on why the lye solutions turned dark brown? Did I scorch the honey? What...

    Too new for complex recipes?

I am very new to soap making. I’ve been doing this for about a month. I have made 4 successful batches of soap. I may have gotten too big for my britches( as we say in Texas). Since I did well on the 4 batches previous, I thought I would attempt a more complex recipe. I really like the idea of...

Did I mix at too hot of a temperature?

It’s really simple. I mixed orange, black, grey and white. Poured small amounts into the mold, just like you would pour for a pull through design. A little orange, a little black, a little grey, a little white, repeat until you use all of your batter. Bang it on the counter to attempt to remove...
