Does anybody make their own lotions (not pre-made bases) and sell them? What kind of testing do you do/ does need to be done before they can be sold to customers?
What are the regulations in regards to lotions, etc?
TIA
Karin
LOL. I didn't know that! I bought it because I read it makes a good base note and has a vanilla aroma (and I couldn't afford real vanilla).
Hm. I am not sure how to market that one now!
I just got my Peru Balsam in the mail and am anxious to make some soap.
I read in a book that resins need to be dissolved in alcohol before you add them to the batch. Is that the same for Peru Balsam?
Or can I add it and it will dissolve in the batch by itself (it seems to have like little...
Yes, I care! Thanks for sharing the info. I'd rather not use it but I used more FCO in my batch and it workes out great without any additives (other than a teensy bit corn starch)
I was looking for sustainable palm oil as well. I know I can get 5 gallon pails from Moutain Rose Herbs but theirs is unrefined (has color and mild aroma).
Is it okay to use unrefined palm oil in soap. What is the reason refined is usually used?
Is it just aesthetics?
I am so glad to read that!
I started out with Brambleberry and Majestic Moutain Sage but ordered some things from WSSP and really appreciated their service.
How are their oils and butters?
They have really good prices on some of them - are they good quality/comparable to BrambleBerry and MMS?
My husband says my lotion bar is greasy although I think it absorbs very quickly.
I have a little bit of cornstarch in it.
Should I use more cornstarch?
Or something else?
Any ideas? :?:
Sorry if this has already been posted but I thought this article was really interesting in many regards.
For one it covers DOS and scientific tests that show how it happens and what can be done to prevent it.
Very interesting to me though was what they had to say about natural preservatives...
Are there any regulations what items need to have shrink wrap/bands on them?
Does it make a difference how they are sold (wholesale/retail/direct/online, etc.)?
I am going to add balms to my selection of soap and am wondering if I need to seal them somehow. The tins they are seem to close...
If you are looking for easy try 'Smart Soapmaking' by Anne Watson!
If you are looking for something a little more comprehensive then try 'Soapmaker's Companion' by Susam Miller Cavitch.
If you look on Amazon you'll find them both for very cheap -maybe get both.
I like Watson's process. It...
Yes, absolutely. I list water as an ingredient.
Thanks. I think I have my answer...
I'll discount it a little bit and label it as 4.75 ounces I think :D
