    Getting a Harder Bar

It looks like you are using full liquid, are you using the 38% of oil weight as your liquid amount? If so I would drop that some and that will definitely make your bars set up and harden faster.

How much Oat Meal Per pound of Oils ?

You could also make it with oat milk, though it probably doesn't have all the same benefits as adding oats to it.

    Mixing lye in ice water?

I just mix my lye into ice cubes from the fridge and the last bit is water to get the lye going faster. After all the lye is dissolved the solution is usually about 75 degrees or so, so it's perfect if you soap with your oils on the cooler side too. I actually find the cube method easier than...

Major oil seepage--What the heck happened!?

Zapping quite a bit less today, I think there is hope! :)

Major oil seepage--What the heck happened!?

If it is in the negative it is probably at most -3% SF, and it if was it would have had to loose 11oz of oil from the entire batch, and I don't think it lost quite that much. Not sure how I would calculate how much the pumpkin part lost though, it's the only part of the soap that is zapping, so...

Major oil seepage--What the heck happened!?

Good to know about the spice FOs and using less water!! Before I added fo and pumpkin, I divided the batch in two separate buckets, added pumpkin to the smaller portion, but added the FO to both buckets and used TD on the bucket without the pumpkin.

Major oil seepage--What the heck happened!?

I used 25oz of water because of the pumpkin. I don't have a crock pot so I ended up just leaving it in the mold. It did set up after it quit pouring oil out the top. I cut it at 9am this morning. The white part is perfect, no zap at all, the pumpkin part however does zap. It seems slightly...

Major oil seepage--What the heck happened!?

The FO was "Homemade Pumpkin Pie" from Bulk Apothecary. I checked the temp when the oil was coming out, it was at 108, so it shouldn't have been too hot. I had maybe 1/8 of an inch over the top of the silicone mold, but it was still below the top of wood that the mold was in. The soap must...

Major oil seepage--What the heck happened!?

Okay, so tonight I *attempted* to make a pumpkin scented soap with a bit of pumpkin puree and some oatmeal added. I used a recipe I have used before, but I have not used that FO before, and I have no idea if it could even be the culprit of what happened with this batch. It blended to trace just...

    Brightening Shampoo Bars?

I'm not sure about the TD, it's in the other peoples bars, but I assume that's just to keep them white, but maybe not? We have a couple palominos and appaloosas, and they get DIRTY! Especially my big leopard appy mare in the winter. All that white doesn't stand a chance against the mud! See how...

    Brightening Shampoo Bars?

So after talking over shampoo bars with my family, they were wondering if a brightening shampoo bar can be made. It would be used for horse manes and tails. Some of our horses have white manes and tails that turn yellow, sometimes brown, depending on how dirty they get (they're out on pasture...

    Goats milk soap

Yes, I would say decrease the milk amount as well. In the lye concentration box on soap calc I put in between 28 (if I'm doing swirls) to 30 (if I want it to set faster). At 30% lye concentration, the water as percent of oils is usually around 31% instead of 38%.

    Question about colostrum and soap!

I have made it before. I freeze a lot of mine in ice cube trays, so 1 cube is an ounce in my trays so it is really easy to measure out for kids and soap. :) Odd thing is for me, the lye will not start melting the colostrum on it's own, I don't know if anyone else has experienced that if they...

    Question about colostrum and soap!

I usually just sell locally or to people I know, a lot gets given away and a lot gets used up by the family. Haven't really started selling online yet, I'm pretty small scale :)

    Question about colostrum and soap!

Thanks for all the replies guys! :) MySoapyHeart-- Yes, let me clear that up for everyone. Baby goats only need 8oz of colostrum and they are set and good to go for the rest of their life; after that 8oz they can drink full milk. My does (mother goats) produce 2-3 gallons each, per day, so when...
