Using a Magnetic Stirrer to Mix Lye

Hmmmm. You've really got me thinking! I have an extra one of these at work that I could bring home. Have you tried using it for stirring your oils and lye to bring to trace? Imagine not having to use the stick blender!

Would this be considered a good soap?

Ohhhh, this sounds great for my fourth batch of soap! I know what I'll be doing tonight. Thanks for sharing! EDITED TO ASK: One teaspoon of sugar per pound of oil?

The Most Technical Soap Thread, Ever! :-)

donniej I don't know if you're a guy or a gal, but if I were single I'd be on bended knee right now! We have fun around here with our little chemistry experiments. Hydrogen from batteries and foil, making sulfuric acid from "scratch", flame colorants for campfires and our own fireworks as...

Can you use foil trays for molding CP soap?

I've been using a shoebox lined with saran wrap. I use scotch tape to hold the saran wrap, and haven't any problems yet.

    Can I rebatch?

The recipe I used called for 1 pond of Crisco, 6 oz water, and 2 oz lye. I added in approximately 10-15 drops of tangerine EO. I used a Pringles can for a mold. This was my first attempt, and was prior to doing much research on soap making. In retrospect, I don't think I brought it to a full...

    Can I rebatch?

I need a little clarification on re-batching... True or false: "Soap" that was made with all the right ingredients, in the right ratios, but was only brought to a false trace, is covered with ash on the outside, and is still soft on the inside after three weeks can be successfully re-batched...

    Which online Suppliers

I've been looking at Peak, too. Does the term "gel-safe" (used to describe some of their fragrances) mean that these fragrances won't fade during the gel stage of soap, or are they referring to something else entirely?

rotating curing soap (and 2 other newbie questions)

Hi all~ Thanks so much for your help with my previous newbie questions. I've made another batch (100% oo, rosemary eo, yummy!) of soap, and this time I think it's going to turn out! I cut the bars and have them stacked like dominoes on an old wood cutting board. 1) a) Do soap bars need to...

I couldn t take it had to make some soap

I've only made one batch of soap, and I used a Pringles can. I didn't insulate the can, though, so my soap has rings. They seem to be fading a little... I like the size and shape, definitely!

Coconut Oil vs Virgin Coconut Oil

OH thank you thank you thank you! I'm a newbie too, and was just looking here to see what the difference between "refined" and "unrefined" coconut oil is. The refined says "for medium high heat" while the unrefined "for low heat." The former was least expensive, by far, so I purchased that...
