    what happened or didn't happen

Fortunately these are going to family so they will love them regardless of appearance. So much to learn, so little time I have to actually do it all.

    what happened or didn't happen

Thanks everyone! Most of my recipes are as follows: 116g lye 318g of frozen coconut milk (subed for h2o) 317g coconut oil 590g lard 2.5oz fragrance My mold is a handmade wood box, wrapped in numerous towels. Would that keep the heat in to much? I planned on giving these as family gifts next...

    what happened or didn't happen

So I've been working 60+ hours at work, and trying to get my family gift baskets all ready before next Saturday. Trying to get 5 different soaps all ready is A CHOIR. The baskets (all 8 of them) will have 5 soaps, homemade candy, and homemade dog biscuits in them. I should had started all this...

    Lye

I go to Ace Hardware and buy the 100% lye there for like $6/pound. It works great and I love that I don't have to wait for shipping. (Plus it is cheaper for me to buy it that way anyway)

    My "all-in-one" mold

Great idea with the shelf liner stuff! I just poured a batch of cocoa mango using the mylar sheets. Depending on how they work out I'll either stay with them or try that painting silicone idea. I appreciate all the kind words! So fun to work with the adjustable part of it. In the pictures I...

    My "all-in-one" mold

Awesome idea, wish I had seen this before I just drove all over trying to find this heat resistant mylar sheets.

    My "all-in-one" mold

Hey dixie, the sides do not put any type of mark that I could see, of course the soap stuck so badly that I really didn't pay huge attention to it. Heading to the Joann store after work to find this heat resistant mylar dtuff I've read great reviews about. Supposed to be a cut once to the size...

    My "all-in-one" mold

I've read about the issues of finding an aheisive that would bond to the silicone. It's definitely an option but they are so expensive for the large mold I have I might wait on them for now.

    My "all-in-one" mold

Going to check out the dollar store for that cutting board then head to hobby lobby for the mylar paper. Try them both out. Instead of the 4-in-one, might have to be a 3-in-one!

    My "all-in-one" mold

Yes, finding a adhesive is the easy part. Getting the soap not to stick is the fun, tricky part. I might just go the mylar route and call it good. The mylar just needs cut and it's reusable. Only draw back is I just have to peel it off after each batch. Might be worth it, but we'll see.

    My "all-in-one" mold

Well since I knew the acrylic wasn't going to adhere anyway (was more interested in if the soap would be nonstick) I only had wood glue on hand. I know loctite will bond it together, just need to grab some. I'll figure this out. It's now my project of "have to complete".

    My "all-in-one" mold

Well like all good ideas, tweaking is needed to make them better. Looks like I have a little tweaking to do but for the most part it turned out fairly well. I'm going to do a bit more research on the non stick sides. Thought plexiglass would be the ticket, I might try an alternative. I kind of...

    My "all-in-one" mold

Thank you everyone! I got the idea from just reading different posts here and on other boards. I'll admit I'm a bjt nervous for the "unveil" but I'll be sure to post pictures regardless of what happens. This batch is also my first scented soap batch too, so it'll either be double good or double...

    My "all-in-one" mold

Thank you, I will unmold tomorrow and take some more pictures. It's anyone's guess but it was a fun project. We'll see how it turns out!

    My "all-in-one" mold

I also thought about making my own lye since this time of year we burn a lot of hard wood. So I also made a simple device to do just that. 5 gallon bucket with a spigot attached. Inside I will have a piece of cloth covering the inlet so to keep the ash out when its done brewing. Yeah, I was...
